MSI RTX 3090 GPUs stolen

They say its 2.2mln yuan based on a fact that someone said its “40 containers"
2.29mln yuan is aroud 300$ that is still just around 200 cards... So idk.. How are these informations spreading while being so inaccurate. 200 cards in 40 containers? What.. 5 cards per container?

箱 in chinese usually mean box in English. The correct translation should be 40 boxes not 40 containers. And if 5 cards in a box then should be 200 cards got stole.

Also wording from the MSI announcement suggest it is insider job.

In all cases the manufacturers should have the serial numbers right? They should publish something along the lines of "if you purchase X product with a serial number from this range: [Y-Z] you will not be under warranty, as these products are stolen". I don't know how much of an effect it would have, but one would hope it would dissuade customers from buying them. They're not exactly going to turn up on legitimate stores either, so the other adage applies: "buyer beware, apart from Ebay in which case fúck noooooo".

Like anyone would pay any attention to that. People know where they're buying from - if you buy from a reputable company, you're not going to check your serial; if you're dropping that kind of money on a product from eBay, you're not going to give two hoots.

Probably. The difficulty is always in getting the customer to be aware of such a thing. I can see MSI having to support stolen cards though, and while I agree it's not necessarily the customer's fault, at some point you have to say "well you bought this from Ebay, it's your risk to take".

I think MSI would be well within their rights to say the cards are stolen and unless someone can provide proof of purchase, there will be no support.

The thing is, it's not likely to put anyone off buying a card from ebay to start with. Honestly, I think it takes a special sort of person or a very desperate one whose senses have been clouded by consumerism to be buying one of these cards from ebay (and I say this as someone who is trying to game at 3440x1440 on a 670, so you can imagine how desperate I am to get a card - but I won't give in to scalpers, either on ebay or big retailers), so the lack of warranty isn't going to put them off. Granted, it may put off some of the purchasers but the cards will still sell.

This is happening, we have had lots of 3000 series stolen and also some 5000 Ryzen too, it does not happen at OcUK HQ, but it is happening while goods are in transit and are either being stolen by couriers or targeted thefts, thankfully we are covered by insurance as are the board partners, but considering how crazy busy resellers and couriers are at the moment, it is just another issue adding more work.

I hope these scum are being prosecuted?

Damn, a 670. I'd step aside for you if there was an orderly queue to buy these cards. But there isn't, there is only chaos.

I appreciate the sentiment nonetheless! :D

When I upgraded this time last year I very nearly bought a 2070S but thought I might as well slum it for a little longer and pick up one of these new cards. Oh 2019 me, if only you had known.

The reality is that the kids keep me away from the computer and so whilst I would game more if I have a better card (25FPS in some games starts getting a bit unbearable after a while), there are other things in life.
