3080 Hype now over & feeling disappointed?

I’m glad OP brought this up, because I’m at 1440p (with no desire to move to 4K) and I genuinely thought this time I was going to get a card that could push me towards the 165hz refresh of my monitor runs at.... and it only does that in less demanding games.

In Hell let loose I see dips below 60 on ultra, Cold War campaign saw some serious dips in demanding scenes (Vietnam) with RTX on ultra, Shadow of the tomb raider dips to the 60’s in demanding scenes with RTX on, and even company of heroes 2 (obviously with no RT features) can stress my 3080 to the max.

This isn’t what I expected from a nearly £800 purchase (although mines super cool and quiet so pleased with that), and it means I’ll be saving for the next model.

That's not exactly what I'm saying. I'm not bashing it. If your happy that's great, it's just my observation (not saying I'm right either) that I didn't think 4k with RT ON was really ready for the prime time. Unless 30-40 fps is prime time.

Since I have had a 4k monitor for a while, I notice ALL displays I work with and screens like TV's generally suck. Even a decent quality 1440p is really noticeable in step up over regular 1080p. I cant game on 1080, not a snob thing its once you try it properly then get used to the crisp detail, there is no going back.

I would agree with the RTX sentiments as most cards cant utilise it properly but its still in an early adoption phase more so from the devs not the hardware IMO.

For some who owns all major resolution panels and refresh rates from 1080p 240hz to 4k 120hz 8 in total including uw

It's very hard switching from 4k to 1440 but can be done it does take a few weeks to readjust your Brain that it looks good. But you always think what if it was 4k.

1080 is ok be just feels extremely blurry.

What I miss from 1440p and 1089 us setting ultra and knowing your oc will just cream it.

The hood old days with GTX280S IN SLI

I got my 3080 today, loaded up GTA 5 and whacked everything to max at 1440p and was getting around 90fps which was what I was getting with my previous settings with my 2070S.
Putting it back to my previous settings and I was up at 144fps and I didn't notice much of a quality difference compared to everything at max.

These aren't magical gpus and ultra is just silly, no need. I got the 60-65% extra performance I was promised.

I used to have a 1024x768 monitor back in the day, this being before 1080p was widely available or sensibly priced. When I finally ponied up for my first 1920x1080 screen, it made such a radical difference that there would have been no way back for me from that point on. Similarly, when I made the leap from 1080p to 4K, I then found myself unable to play on any resolution lower than 1440p. I expect when 8K eventually arrives, and 4K has been normalised for all consumers for a long time, the process will repeat. :p

The noise! the heat!

Hated that card, was pimped by AMD as being cool and quiet and was anything but.

The beauty! the RMA!

I didnt grumble. It came with a PSU both ended getting sent back after a few months, ended up with my Seasonic and a 290X which I installed an AIO later down the line so it was cool and quiet.

The horsepower at the time was awesome though!

@OP
You are right in your summation; before I made this post I checked on YouTube FPS in the above games & they all have the same problem.

Indeed, it's unfortunate that many games you like, have a problem, and not necessarily the graphics card.
