Radeon 6900 XT

Managed to get my hands on a 6900xt red devil, which is on its way, but realised it needs a 900w psu after buying........ Anybody know of any data on this and if I should just go ahead and buy a 1000w psu while I'm at it?
Red Devil 6900xt has 3x8 power connectors. Reference 6900xt and some AIB cards only have 2. So Red Devil can use a lot more power ( if the power limit is unlocked on the card ). So yes you need a better PSU but you will most likely get more performance from that card vs a reference 6900xt.

Thanks - I'll probably cancel/return the ASrock I bought as well as it was a mid panic buy! If I get more performance I'll look to buy a 1000w and sell the 750w I currently have. Slightly frustrating since this is a newish build but oh well

its basically like getting a 3080 and setting the rest on fire anyway ha ha

That's a rather immature response don't you think. Everyone is different and just because I think a 3090 meets my needs and wants and I'm happy to pay the price that's how I 'perceive' value. Just because you don't who really gives a ****.

This is a thread where people are prepared to spend >£1,000 on a GPU. Get over it. You could say the same about the 6800XT to the 6900XT but people are buying them. I guess you haven't got the money so stop having a go at people who are quite happy to pay the price and can afford it.

You are probably the only one in the country with one so data on what power it wants is thin.

The card itself is going to want to draw about 350w-400w. You should be fine on platinum level PSU like an AX750 but nobody here has verified it.

what is the rest of the system details and specs?

what is the rest of the system details and specs?
Amd 3900x
X570 Aorus Elite mobo
Corsair rm750 psu
16gb DDR4 ram (rgb)
H100i platinum aio
Corsair 680x case (relevant for 3 rgb fans it makes a difference)
SSD

GPU would then be the 6900xt. I've just bought a corsair RM1000i on standby and will sell my current psu if necessary. Its only 6 months old so I hope I'll be able to sell it relatively easily.

You will probably be ok unless you start doing some serious overclocking. The 6800 XT Red Devil can use about 350W under heavy usage so the 6900 XT version could reach 400W. This could increase further with custom bios and power limits.

Going forward next time you upgrade your PSU I would suggest that you go for one with plenty of headroom like 1000W or 1200W as this gives you the option to upgrade any other part of your system without having to worry about the PSU.

Thanks. Yes I thought given all the power estimators that I would be OK until I actually read the cards specs!

Id be intrigued to try rage mode, rather than any serious overclocking, but it's likely to be something I'd do down the line to eek out power as technology progresses as I'm not a serial upgrade.

I almost bought one, had it in my basket. Then I realised I was about to spend £1100 on a GPU and pulled out...!

I’ve already got a 6800 and although I wanted an XT I’m pretty happy overall with its performance. The sensible thing to do is to keep it until the successors come out and upgrade then. I’m generally a rational person, a moment of near madness then haha.

An expensive week. Had a 5950X delivered on Saturday (originally meant to be a 5900X, had a hunch they were going to be delayed so ordered the 5950X on Wednesday instead in the end, glad I did) and managed to get one of the 6900XTs yesterday, which was delivered today.

Had enough of waiting around hitting refresh for the checkout lottery for the past 3 months so jumped at the chance yesterday.

I have a tiny MITX case (NCASE M1) so GPU options (and PSU options) are very limited, the 6900XT was the obvious option to go for. Played a couple of games so far - very happy now.

This is one punchy MITX system that's for sure :p

Enjoy just as I am with my 3090. Ignore the naysyers.

This is how mine sounds, with me tabbing in and out of the game for contrast. You can hear it over the fan noise.

Not awful with window closed, but obviously not what you want. Hoping burn in might help.

The noise is quite obnoxious when I start some games, given that the fans haven't ramped up to mask it I guess that compounds the problem but it does seem to settle down to being a little bit over the fans when running normally.

It's tolerable although would mean a silent running rig is out of the question, what's more worrying is I've had a few games go to black screen, computer continues to run so if I had to guess then a power issue? Not sure how well it's going to work during summer either, already had the GPU up to 80c and hot spot over 100c at stock settings.

The black screen is what I had during benchmarks but then resolved itself (or seemingly so) once I plugged in my second cable as I was half asleep when setting it up (card has 3 pins)

Maybe try running two separate cables instead of the splitter if that's what you're doing?
