A few mates and I have had a blast on 7 Days To Die (and subsequently the Darkness Falls Mod) but we've got to the end game and so are looking for another co-op survival type game.

Not overly interested in PvP as it will be a casual jump in and jump out situation so have been considering Dayz and Rust - but I'm not sure how much of a PvE experience these would provide on a dedicated server?

Any suggestions welcome!

Its not survival along the same lines as Dayz ir rust as they are more about building and the survival aspects are limited to fighting off hunger/thirst and the mobs, but Raft is pretty good on co-op, The Forest is another good co-op one

I've not played 7 days to die, but I'd imagine it's not too disimilar to The Forest as suggested by Tombstone.

Project Zomboid
Don't Starve Together
Factorio (kinda)
Space Engineers
ARK - only played PVE with friends on an XP and time tweaked server.

My experience of Rust is, spawn, get shot, spawn somewhere else, get sniped, spawn somewhere, start making base, get shot, respawn at base, get base camped, spend ages trying to kill someone with bows while they are geared, then play distraction as someone manages to sneak out of base and up behind them for this to occur.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone - much appreciated!

I've got The Forest, Green Hell and Space Engineers so will see how they play in terms of PvE and I've already played ARK Survival but couldn't get into it for some reason!

In terms of Rust, notwithstanding the survival in respect of hunger and thirst etc, is there an element of AI mobs/NPC's on a dedicated server? What I have no interest in is being continually sniped by a 9 year old while I'm trying to craft a campfire!

Can vouch for state of decay 1 or 2, both exceptional games.

Space engineers i've been playing since Alpha/beta and its come a long way. You really do need to have a fair bit of time on hand though as building and mining etc for materials takes quite awhile especially if you want to build something amazing.

Hated ARK, can't get into it, takes too long to get remotely where you want to be.

Rust, watching the videos was enough to turn me away from it.

Is it open world type pve survival you're after?

Could give Infestation - The NewZ a go,Its free on Steam.

It is primarily a PVP game, But has many different game modes & if you select PVE private servers to play on you can have full PVE experience without anyone been able to kill you.

They have a Survival mode too.

Have you tried Subnautica? It's loosely survival but in the sea on an alien world.

Green Hell is not very challenging once you get going. I play in a group of 3 and I think we've explored everywhere in under 20 hours. It looks good though and I like the crafting abs food aspects.

Ark takes a while and is held back by its ridiculous updates. Its highly customisable though and only the dlc offers any sort of challenge. A dedicated server is helpful. Flying on Argentavis' and harassing other dino's trashes up most of my time.
Can be a grind fest.

Raft is quite simplistic. I find it relaxing but it is not combat heavy if that is what you are looking for.

I'm in the same boat as you and looking for something that a group of us can play that does not involve other people.
Grounded is currently on my radar.

It's why we turned up XP, taming, resource gathering, breeding rates and had mods to make it less of a faff.
I was gonna try this again with those settings but the first try was enough to put me off. The game takes up a hell of a lot of space too lol, its as bad as cod!

Yes - I've really enjoyed 7 Days to Die having hosted a dedicated server on my Unraid server!

Thanks, I'll have a look at this!

A mate of mine has it so might give it a look!

Yeah I tried Grounded when it was free to play for a weekend recently but not 100% sure! If you are looking for something that plays well on a dedicated server I can't recommend 7 Days to Die enough - graphically it is a bit of a mixed bag but playability-wise with a bunch of friends is great fun! (especially if you also go for the Darkness Falls mod as it adds sooooo much extra content!)

Yeah we tried Ark and it was OK on a dedicated server - I just lost interest in the subject matter, even with taming tuned so it took a fraction of the time!

They are Billions - on Steam. Its incredibly addictive and i have been playing player mad maps and mods now for months.

Again I will take a look but top-down isn't really what we are after! Ideally I guess I'm looking for 7 Days to Die 2! :D

This isn't exactly what you asked for but if you like the building aspect of 7 Days To Die, then Dragon Quest Builders 2 is a hugely underrated building game.

The coop though is only up to 3 others joining your game instance, but the building aspect is superb with much better graphics than Minecraft, much less janky than 7D2D with more of a console style. Can make railways, all kinds of vehicles. The single player is great being an action RPG as well and has you charged with building and repairing towns and castles, etc.

Free demo on Steam that last about 5 hours or more, one of the most generous demos out there in terms of playtime.

OH yea, think last time I installed it it was ~170GB, maybe more tbh. Utterly insane IMHO.

A mate of mine has it so might give it a look!

Subnautica is single player AFAIK. There is a multiplayer mod, but not sure how well it works. I don't think the second subnautica changed this.

Thats fine, but i will tell ya... maybe its just me but i have been playing this ******* game on other folks maps for months now and enjoy it so much.
The modding / map build community is excellent, heck i am building my own as it comes with its own editor.
