30xx Series Founders Edition

I've been doing this for a couple of years. My PC was in the garage that adjoined to my office. No noise, no heat, no worries about cable connectors. I've just relocated my office upstairs and the heat was getting uncomfortable last night, so plans are now being hatched to get the PC into the attic above the new office.

The reason I would spend so much on a card is mostly due to noise. But the 3080 trio is way too much compared to some other 3080s. I am on the fence of picking a half decent 3080, undervolting it a bit to keep temperatures down and getting an optic dp cable and active usb cable. Like oyu said it gets hot and in the summer it gets really hot with a comuter in the room.

Yeah same - didn't think it would bother me at all but it did and sometimes notice it and it looks so awkward but mostly manage to forget about it heh.

Vertical mount and a third party soft cable instead of the rigid one it comes with would be enough to keep it mostly out of the way.

3070 arrived, it's a huge size difference from my 1080 Ti. Definitely a much better premium feel.

EDIT: Wow, that power pin placement is actually bugging me more than I thought... If it was longer as well I would be able to hide it better. At least I now have enough space to "mount the AIO correctly".

Get yourself a custom cable I wasn't sure at first you dont really see it but I ordered one tailored made and took a few weeks but so glad I did.

Oh dear, I got a really silly question for you all - Bare with me, it's been a while since I last upgraded :p

I'm moving from 1080Ti to 3070 -- Do I need to uninstall the Nvidia drivers before I install the new 3070?

Nope, I'm assuming your drivers are up to date any way yes?

Only thing I wouldnt know is would the driver know its got new features to unlock etc. so would use a new driver and select the option to clean install so it removed the last one properly.

As long as you have recent drivers that came out after the 3070 then it’ll be absolutely fine

Did the same move, I just ran the installer again for the latest one and picked the clean install option.

Funnily enough, I noticed the latest drivers included the fix for the flickering issue for the 1080 Ti, one reason why I wanted to move away from it.

Just booted up Cyberpunk - Raytracing really is so beautiful

But I just tried DLSS... To be honest, I felt like I could tell the difference really easily (in the quality of the image) - I haven't tried "Quality" DLSS yet, but I'm not sure I'd use Performance, as I feel like I can notice it, especially during fast movements of the camera angle. It doesn't feel as ground-breaking as everyone seems to make it out, but I've only tried it in one game, so I can't give a full view on it right now.

Make sure you turn off Film Grain, and Chromatic Aberration, those with DLSS = hella blurry.

I'm running it at All Psycho, and Ultra RT at 3440x1440, DLSS Auto.

Performance DLSS upscales from quite a lower resolution render, Quality is higher res. and seems to be the sweet spot if you care about eye candy (from watching in-depth reviews).

BTW, someone mentioned coil whine - do any of you have that problem? My 3070 seems silent, at least from about 1m away (have to stick my head in my case to check).

No coil whine here, I've been testing various games to stress the card and even if it's there, I can't hear it. My previous 1080 Ti had really bad coil whine.

Had whine with 1 x 3080FE and 1 3090FE. On same power supply (AX1600i) 2 x 3090FEs and 1 x 3080FE different did not have whine or went away. So in my experience can happen, just down to the luck of the card you can get IMO (if its not the PSU)

Yeah, I'd never use anything other than quality. Dead easy to notice otherwise.

retailer AIB stock update "This weekend our team will be concentrating on completing as many as possible of the RTX 3080 alternate card offer emails with customers which will reduce the pre-order numbers significantly over the next few days."

I still think they are getting this week's 3080 FE's. If you look at their AIB 3080 stock numbers, they only got in 30 on Jan 4, and nothing since. 'reduce the pre-order numbers significantly' sounds to me like more than 30 cards. note they don't list FEs publically.

EDIT: they could have held back some stock from the prior week where they had a bigger shipment.

Very possible.
