30xx Series Founders Edition

What time did the 3080 actually go live?

I was fully expecting a chance to see some cards go live at 2pm but earliest I looked was 1:10pm.. I was working so couldn't look any earlier..

I guess a lot of people able to get these cards either work from home on PC or are furloughed

My telegram alert was 13:08

Was playing xbox game via OBS (which was lucky else I wouldnt have seen it).

I got all 3 alerts at once, and me clamouring to browser was like nothing ever before.

To me telegram is much better than discord for this.

yep I checked after, but I prefer how telegram handles alerts, part of the issue is I have friends and other alerts going on with discord, telegram I dont have that, and it just shoves up the messages on top so far easier for me, and am very glad I am now on a telegram alert channel now.

I'd not long got out of bed following a night shift, heard my phone go and saw an alert from FE PartAlert on Telegram.
Managed to get a 3060ti and just checked out as a guest no problem.

I'm confused telegram is an app or name of the discord group? I've been on that partalert app/website I think actually and thought was garbage - just pointing me to all the scalpers items like £500 over the rrp and stuff.

Gonna try discord now. But now we've missed today's drop is there any chance us unlucky guys will get another drop this week or no?

It is a chat app. I notice the telegram groups are nowhere near as actively advertised, but still there is over 4k users in the group. (telegram makes the count public).

It was 3 weeks since last drop so my guess is another 2-3 weeks at least.

The good news nvidia didnt up the price like the AIB's have so looks like it will stay £650.

Also it is only the FE's. so you dont get AIB junk alerts.

Most drops are between 2pm and 4pm though there have been some from 1pm and the odd 10am, etc. beyond that there isn't really much rhyme or reason but several weeks have had a Monday or Tuesday drop followed by a Friday drop, other times there hasn't been a drop for over a week.

Anyone else just receive another email with the competitors status of payment etc. but this time the payment shows as awaiting? (despite receiving one at the time of order saying payment authorised [and also showing in my amex account])

Yeah they always seem to do that, you get the 2nd email which says Order Placed after the 3rd email which says Payment Authorised

How do you know that? The die itself and VRAM is unlikely to cost more than £300-400 to produce. One factor we don't know is the die yield rate, which I expect will improve over time.

Also, what about the RTX 3070s?

I wouldn't describe £650 for the RTX 3080 FE as affordable to most gamers.

The RTX 3060 TI / similar models will probably be the big sellers for gamers in 2021. AMD apparently has RX 6700 GPUs on the way in a few months, but they don't seem to be a priority.

It’s widely reported by the usual suspects like Gamers Nexus etc. and in the wider tech oriented press that AIBs are not able to get a card out at MSRP because of how much nvidia charges them for the chips and ram. But you’ll not find an official statement on the matter from Asus if that is what you are asking.

An AIB will never make a public statement about it due to NDA and fear of backlash from nvidia who can just kill their business on a whim.

They have broken down the costs of AIB cards to the individual component level and then manufacturing and distribution costs. If an AIB made a card for MSRP they make no profit and that card wound not be up to standard. This applies to all FE cards not just the 3080, even more so to the lower end cards as there is less wiggle room in the price.

I have said it a few times, FE cards are just there to set an MSRP for review purposes. The real money is made through selling to AIBs. If AIBs didn’t exist, nvidia would have to charge far more than £650 for a FE card to make the same amount of money. Think of it as a door buster/loss leader to generate interest and hype.

Makes me laugh seeing these alerts for other 3080s at £800+ when you can get the FE for £650, granted AIB have better coolers etc. but they ain't worth that much more
