30xx Series Founders Edition

It’ll be interesting to see whether or not the 3080Ti FE shares the 3090FE cooler.

It’s considerably chunkier than the 3080FE cooler and seems to do a better job.

Would be a shame if the 3080Ti didn’t.

Just disassembled my 3090 FE to fit my shiny new Corsair water block. It looks like it was thrown together! The thermal paste was dry and flaky, and there was far too much so it was a mess to clean up. I stopped short of picking it out of the nooks and crannies with a toothpick, I'm quite wary of disturbing anything.

On a side note, the backplate of the corsair waterblock is a thin, cheap bit of stamped aluminium. Not much thermal inertia there. I have an Mp5works backplate cooler coming tomorrow which I'm glad of, but I might assemble the loop this afternoon so I can compare the before and after temps.

Has the 3090fe Corsair block got a 1 or two slot IO plate included? Not my ideal block but do need one soon. Also need it as two slot max rather then 3 slot as on the 3090FE so trying to see which waterblocks can do that

An AIB will never make a public statement about it due to NDA and fear of backlash from nvidia who can just kill their business on a whim.

They have broken down the costs of AIB cards to the individual component level and then manufacturing and distribution costs. If an AIB made a card for MSRP they make no profit and that card wound not be up to standard. This applies to all FE cards not just the 3080, even more so to the lower end cards as there is less wiggle room in the price.

I have said it a few times, FE cards are just there to set an MSRP for review purposes. The real money is made through selling to AIBs. If AIBs didn’t exist, nvidia would have to charge far more than £650 for a FE card to make the same amount of money. Think of it as a door buster/loss leader to generate interest and hype.

The AIBs have a lot of friends and I consider it rubbish. GN and the like, their contacts are media reps, they are obviously going to be sold stories that puts the company in a good light. I get there possibly was rebates on components to get first few cards out cheaper, but I dont believe they have needed to raise prices by circa £200-300 because of what you state, MSI were caught scalping, the others are at it as well but just not caught.

Now if you are claiming there is authority to what you state then feel free to post the invoice from nvidia stating the wholesale pricing which forces them to sell 3080s close to a grand. The issue is not so much they not at MSRP but the gulf in difference, we not talking £10 £20 or even £50, we talking hundreds. No one here is expecting asus and co to sell cards for £650, I think many would consider anything up to about £750 reasonable for a high end card, and high 600s for a budget model.

Put yourself in their shoes, demand is high vs supply, you would be tempted to bump up the price right?

Also gibbo revealed something interesting, that they have been tinkering with prices every couple of weeks, thats what someone does when they gouging to maximise profit, or are you going to say nvidia are raising their wholesale costs every 2 weeks to cause that?

Yep, two slot plate included. I can't believe how tiny the card is with a waterblock on, I'd gotten used to my BFGPU :D

Perfect thanks! Yeah card is massive with air cooler, triple slot monster, but strip it naked :p thanks got confirming, really waiting on the EK one but just looking at options given the EK block has not yet gone up for pre-order!

The EK one is going to be so expensive. It does look gorgeous, but for the same price I could get the corsair and an Mp5works for the backplate.

You clearly haven’t read any of that coverage otherwise your first point you will have realised is wrong.

Do you honestly believe MSI as a company (which is a massive organisation with a wide number of devisions and autonomous subsidiaries operating all over the world) had a scalp policy in place? I’d also suggest reading some non-sensationalist coverage of that too.

You are correct that they don’t need to raise the price £200-£300 and they haven’t. The supply chain is far more complex with retailers and distributors all adding their own margin on top a product before it gets to you. Just take here as an example, the cards were originally advertised at RRP and they just went up from there.

I’m sure they have been tinkering with prices but tinkering is a far cry from what we are seeing now. You can also get one directly from the AIB for RRP where they do direct sales. The irony of that last point is funny because here is one of the worst for jacking up the prices of in demand products. Exchange rates anyone :p.

My 1980's VHS cassette arrived :p

Showing how much shorter it is than a vega 64 strix, some weight in the little bugger as well, it really does surprise you when you first pick it up.

As usual the box had the standard white plastic bag around it, seems to be an nvidia thing where they include that for some reason, my old titan x had the same thing.
