30xx Series Founders Edition

I have undervolted my 3080fe to 875mv and 1850 mhz. CPU user benchmark reported only a 1% drop for the GPU. This has also allowed me to keep the fans at their lowest 40% up to 70C. From there I ramp it up linearly to 90C at 100% fans.

Done basically the same with my 3070fe, though i've had to use a different software from MSI AB as their fan control seems broken (at least it was on the drivers last i looked). However, the fan program i've got actually lets you set curves for all connected system fans so happy to be using that instead!

That does sorta make sense as a workstation card (which it really is), where loud fan noise is less desirable (especially for the premium price). Whereas game audio often drowns out fan noise.

I think less noise is desirable period for anything personally. Why so many manufacturers keep playing top trumps in that area aswell as temps. Personally I do not use headphones often so will prefer a quieter card when gaming. Now of course in case of the FE models, not as big deal considering your comparing a good cooler (3080FE) to an exceptional one (3090FE) with former still being very good even in comparison to most 3080 AIB SKUs. Also easier for Nvidia to use the higher margin the 3090 gives them to slap on a bigger cooler.

Nice. The voltage / power scaling is really something with these cards. Really shows how after 1900 Mhz or so, you need such large jumps in voltage to attain only slightly higher clock speeds.

Exactly. Looking at the curve, you see it tail off rapidly after 1850. Practically adding more juice for 0 mhz increase!! I calculate 60-80w reduction in theory, if the end of the curve was ever met.

Fanboy alert.

So: what are you using?

What software do you use? I'm looking to replace my Aquaero

Is £570 for a RTX 3070 VENTUS 3X OC worth it? I managed to order one but thinking if I should just add a bit more and try to go for a 3080 FE (if and when I can get hold of one)

I'd aim for the FE's. Far better value.

Although at current pricing £570 forms 3070 isn't bad. I have a mate who paid £650 for a 3070.

Only thing I will mention is heat. I'm not sure how the 3070 runs but my 3080 FE gets hot.

Installed my 3080 FE this evening and gave it a good test.

It's a very powerful card, no issues with the noise it makes. Only thing that concerns me slightly is how hot it runs.

I put my finger on the inside grill and it's that hot that you would burn yourself if you keep your finger there for too long.

It's not too bad now that we are in winter, but I am in a loft conversion. It gets hot up here real easy.

My 1080 runs so cool. :(

I originally ordered the TUF 3080 as it was advertised as running cool, are we talking if I put my finger on the back of the card it wouldn't burn like the FE cool?

What sort of temps are you seeing? My 3080fe runs far cooler than my 2070s. I wouldn't be too worried about the card itself being hot to the touch. The whole thing is metal working as one big heatsink which imo is far better than covering most of the card in a plastic shroud so everything inside bakes.

I'm not sure what the temp readings are, I just touched the back of the GPU (inside grill) and was shocked at how hot it was.

When do you guys think the stock situation with RTX 3070 AIB models will improve? January, or later?

Also, if someone could post a list to the production costs of the RTX FE graphics cards that have been reported on tech review websites, I'd appreciate it. I'm curious to know if they make any profit at all on the FE models.

They don't make much profit at all on the FE's especially this time round as the FE coolers this series are very impressive but ultimately more expensive. The FE is just used as a poster child to say look how cheap we are but in reality this series RRP is a joke and all AIB's have said they cannot get anywhere near it!!

I just got an FE 3080 yesterday and was surprised to find it runs cooler than my old EVGA 1080Ti did.

Maybe it's a case vs GPU cooler layout thing?

indeed this is the way to go now days, auto oc firmwares already pretty much max out the card, and the more you push the less efficient it is.

I also got decent gains on my 1080ti from undervolting.
