No Boot Following Side Panel Removal

Best not to really start/try to start your PC without cooling on the CPU. Doesn't matter which sys_fan header the case fans are connected too.

When you say 'now it works' I'm assuming you mean the case fan and not the entire PC yet?

Yeah I only swapped over the fans for like 10 second to see what would happen then put them back. The pc is still not working.

Currently looking at new motherboards as I think that's where the issue may be.

So assuming my motherboard is dead what would be a good board to get for a Ryzen 5 5600x? I have a budget of about £150 and would need either a board that supports the 5600x out of the box or one that has flashback so I could do a bios update without a cpu in. A lot of motherboards seem to be out of stock all over the place.

I have a 5600x sitting waiting and 16GB of 3600mhz DDR 4 coming as well as a new AIO cooler.

Agreed. Done a bit of Googling on that mobo and you are not alone with the power off - won't boot issue. Not sure you have anywhere to go at this stage but a new mobo.

I think I may push the budget a little more and get the Asus RoG Strix B550-F Gaming. Seems to be a really good board and has bios flashback.

I'd probably go Tomahawk myself, but always liked the RoG Strix boards. Currently using one, albeit X470...
There have been BIOS hiccups with every Ryzen gen, I don't think MSI have any significant issues at present.

They'll both perform well, up to you which you prefer.

Nice board.

£10 more will get yhe Wi-Fi version which also has bluetooth if that is advantageous.

My pc is always wired so I don't have much needed for wifi on it or bluetooth really. Got loads of dongles if I really need it for something.

I just went for it and ordered the ROG Strix. I could spend many more hours looking but I think this board will suffice me.

You said you were measureing for an AIO, just out of interest you didn't use a metal tape measure or ruler and accidently short something did you? Caps can hold a charge for a while after power down.

I did use a metal tape measure. However the pc was unplugged and the tape only ever touched the outside of the case. It never went near the motherboard.

Just an update.

New motherboard arrived and built my system again with new mobo and cpu. Existing ram and gpu are working fine so I'm glad they didn't die. I don't have another motherboard to test with so I don't know if the 5820k is working or not. I was going to buy another x99a sli Plus, or even another x99 motherboard but the prices on 2nd hand ones are really high so I might just have to end up selling the ram only, which is a pity.
