Is that VAT registration still a thing though? I thought EU membership was the mechanism that allowed for reciprocal VAT agreements...
Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.
UK mainland only... RIP Northern Ireland customers.
Also, @Gibbo, talking of us Northern Ireland customers, I know that you’ve clarified the DPD situation on customers in Ireland, but what about Northern Ireland? Is Brexit/DPD causing issues for NI based customers?
+1
I'd like to know this too. I'll be buying a monitor soon so it would be nice to know if ocuk still sell to Northern Ireland?
The charge is not VAT, you will not be charged VAT as OcUK are Irish VAT registered. But there are import fees that you can't get around on anything over €150.
Overseas shipments are on hold atm whilst we rewrite our software and gather information that we were only informed two days ago that DPD will need to restart shipments.
We CAN still sell anywhere we want to, the problem is the lack of clarity currently about VAT and export paperwork.
Duty isn't really a concern since very little of what we sell has any duty on it.
We are working to resolve things but, as with anything that involves government bureaucracy, answers are slow to come.
Yeah but I'm not talking about Ireland, I'm in Northern Ireland which is in the UK.
Send a webnote to Overclockers to enquire about a code is your best bet.Does anyone know how to redeem the COD:Cold WAR that comes with a 3080? I got an Inno3D card, Inno3D told me to speak to Nvidia, Nvidia told me to speak to overclockers... how do I get my code? Is it just not running in the UK?
The entire import / export situation is problematic right now , as the rules regarding Northern Ireland are different to the rest of the UK (Eu border in the irish sea). I`ll get the documents but importing will require vat to be paid, as will exporting to NI then require VAT to be paid but then claimed back. Also if you do the leg work yourself - you requrie 2 x EORI numbers (1 for UK adn 1 for EU). or you pay a company to do all of it - which adds time/cost, just read the enws for the costs added on for arriving items from europe to individuals.
My understanding is that it was only food that had any extra regulations. I've also already paid VAT.
Either way, I'm a UK VAT registered business operating in the UK, buying from a UK VAT registered business operating in the UK, so I'm not sure I understand what the issue is. The competition will deliver to NI, and DPD delivered to me just this week with no issues from another UK retailer.
Its everything not only food. Also , as the border is now the Irish Sea, for trade purposes Northern Ireland is being treated as part of the EU for goods from the UK; therefore export EORI is needed and import VAT will become due in 6 months. As VAT was already paid on landing in the UK from * A , N , other country* , VAT is only payable once - so the second payment will be claimed back after it is paid. Also, other companies are likely using DPD for its full export service with time/cost implications. As said on the news earlier - lorries with £200,000 of cargo from the EU are needing either the cash or a financial writ of £40,000 to pre pay the VAT and claim back later , same with NI border.
It's being treated as part of the EU for goods from the UK, and being treated as part of the UK for goods from the EU. Are they trying to create a humanitarian disaster?
Well at least it hasn't affect trade the other way. 60% of my customers are English and it has changed nothing for my vat registered business. in fact most of my January work so far has been for English companies.
Well then, I'm off to (insert competitor name here), to buy a monitor.
It`ll all change after April 1st as well for goods valued under £135. If your doing it business to business - i would honestly get independent advice, in case you do get an unexpected vat bill in july, as EU>UK>NI is a whole kettle of a mess.
Nah there's no difference for trade from here to the mainland, as it has to do with the risk of the goods moving onto the EU as far as I know. So the UK gov are afraid i'll start running GPU's over the border, because we all know you can't get gpu's in the EU or something?
Anyway, I'm pretty sure HMRC will be paying me as usual. Even if I wasn't over the threshold I'd still be VAT registered, because it's actually beneficial in my line of work.
Thankfully most still sell to NI right now. in fact OCUK is the first UK retailer I've come across doing this. Until now I've only experienced EU retailers refusing to deliver since Jan 1st.
