Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I moved to 1Gb last year and had nothing but trouble, so I asked them to put me back on 500mb, first they told me the price would be the same, I complained a lot and they agreed at £45 for 500.

I thought they would send me a Hub 3, but it turns out they just limited my connection to 500mb. Its been a week now and it's been much more stable.

Today I had an engineer visit to move the cable entry from the house to the garage, the engineer also said 1gb isn't stable. I now have my modem, router and main switch on a UPS, so hopefully if there's a power cut I won't lose connection and the voip phone will still work.

VM are are coming to my current area soon, if I take out services at the current £79 a month for ultimate oompf and then move house, do I just pay the £20 moving fee shown here and then remain on the same contract I take out? It seems to confirm that's true on the FAQ page but I just wanted to double check. My current PlusNet and BT Sport is nearly £60 out of contract so it'll be beneficial to move over for me.

Moving is free, has been for circa 15 years, as part of the move, you take out a new contract and can get a new bundle deal, exactly the same bundle deals as new customers, sometimes even better.

Excellent, I imagine I'll be able to get it ordered and connected before my move completes.

They won't normally activate before you have the keys etc. as it requires entry to the property. Obviously if the seller/landlord is OK about it you could sort it prior, but from personal experience book it the day after you move at the earliest, the number of 'we haven't got the keys yet/it has no power because the meter key is missing/it's been disconnected' etc. were quite high.

Got 200mb only was paying mates rates 27 a month they upped it to 45 I said to cancel and the best retentions would do was 31. Which I ended up having to accept.

I mean for my current house, then once I know the exchange date I'll ring them up with it and tell them I'm moving. The sellers are buying my house and they currently use VM so it should be a straight swap and by having it installed in my current house already will help them out.

you're swapping houses? A cyclical chain!

Depending on the timescale, it may not. The way it works is the account is property specific, when you go to install, the people moving in can't book an install until it's completed and you book your disconnection to move, as it's what's known as a house swap, one of you has to disconnect and the other transfers, the disconnecting party then reconnects (it's the best process available, trust me).

Yup, pretty bizarre but it works for all parties.

I might just be better off waiting then and then the buyers can arrange a connection date with VM when they move in. I'm just really fed up of being 'stuck' on 60/15 FTTC. :(

that is going to be one crazy moving day! still at least you know who to ask if you leave something behind/find something at the other end. The lot we bought from never left a forwarding address and we still get post for them. Plus we have a DVD and a saw they left behind. Not to mention two rolls of moth-infested felt they'd shoved in the eaves. Cheers for that! On the upside we found the old kitchen door in the loft so were able to re-hang that. (who doesn't want a kitchen door FFS)

Spoke to a lovely lady today on the phone, she was very honest and to the point with me. The best she could offer me was the same but with the £3.50 price increase in which she said i might be able to void if i make a few calls to the retention team and before it connects, wait for the message that says they can cancel the increase. She also said for now accept the offer im giving you and wait till next week when their offer quota's get refreshed and they can give me a better price, she said she doesn't want to waste my time trying to offer me "crap deals" as she said and she rather i called back next week. I like her haha, i asked if theres a direct line to her so i can call back, she giggled :p LOL and said no unfortunately not... i tried anyway lol!

They phoned me back again last night, with more insulting offers that were more expensive than a new customer would get, and that doesn't include all the other incentives offered like Quidco etc. I told them not to bother calling me back, and in 6 months time I'll abuse their new customer offers if I need to, but for now I am happy with the 4G Router, and my unlimited SIM for ~£9 per month. I might splash out and get a 5G compatible antenna when they upgrade the local cell that I am connecting to, and get a nice 200+ Mbps at no extra cost other than the antenna. :)

Same thing annoys me, everything should be the same across the country, not dependant on the area you live in. I am aware that the costs that are involved in supplying the infra structure vary from region to region but that would even itself out over the whole country.

i have a feeling virgin person on the phone you speak with checks your area first to see if you can get said high speed alternatives. if not then no reason for them to offer you cheaper price since no one else can match what they offer speed wise.

As I’ve said previously, it’s criteria based, while being competitive is part of that strategy, if a customer specifically wants to move to a new provider, serviceability is not normally checked till the customer brings it up. The deals offered depend on the customer’s circumstances, the length of time they have been with VM, the faults/complaints/payment history on the account, what services they have and the reason they want to leave.

To give an example the customer who’s complained his box gets too hot/dusty every month and every time the batteries run out wants compensation while managing to have never paid a bill on time - ever - is unlikely to be treated as favourably as the customer who has always paid on time and who’s only complaint was when the install tech ran over his dog and is suffering financial hardship and has a vulnerable classification. You may think that those examples are far fetched, but both customers are real.

Folks... I just called VM... and they wont even budge one bit so I told them to cancel my contract they told me its 30 days notice. and I said fine.
Does this mean that I still have a chance to stop the cancellation incase or thats that?
