If someone waiting for a 3080 cancelled their order, would OCUK let someone else take their position

How many times does someone miss the point ? :D
LOL we are quite happy for you to join a queue. Problem was you wanted to join it in the middle or the beginning not the end and you cant see why this is wrong. Everyone else can.

I understand fully what you're saying I'm not thick. If you even look above I agreed with a poster who made a perfectly good argument, it was just a question, I'd rather join the queue somewhere than not be able to join it at all, even if it was only the end.

They are disadvantaged though, as someone jumped in front of them, after someone who had also queued dropped out, therefore, they've lost 1 place in the queue. This process could continue unabated. Not that it's ever going to happen mind you.

I could say they're still in the same position they were previously, so haven’t been disadvantaged. :p
But as you say it’s never going to happen and I’m happy to take your point.

Edited because I started typing something and couldn’t be bothered finishing it. :o

I think you're anything but thick, to think up that potential way of getting a graphics card is actually quite smart. But your theoretical question has made a few people here question your morals, because it's asked for a reason. It's all well and good saying that any ad here would be taken down, but don't expect after asking that question that people won't suspect you're still going to do that elsewhere. There's plenty of scope there to do it.

And those people might be wrong in thinking that, but you've planted the idea in peoples' heads that you're wanting to be a bit sneaky, maybe unintended but just admit you probably dropped a bollock asking it here. Because it is a bit sneaky.

Post #1 was where it started going wrong for you on this thread, but everyone makes mistakes and it ain't for anyone here to judge you, only you know you.

FWIW I'm just like you, I didn't get in any queue and wasn't prepared to pay 650 quid at launch, foolishly thinking I'd get one when they dropped under 600 quid. Now I'm thinking my limit might be 800 quid, but I'm also thinking 800 quid is a lot to pay for the kinda improvement I'll get over the 2080. I could buy a 3090, but that would be even worse in terms of what I get over the 2080 for what the outlay is.

But I'm lucky to have what is still a fairly decent card and could easily wait another 6 months or a year. I don't know what your current situation is in that regard, but I'd say if you have anything less than a 2060 or 5700XT, I guess I could understand the desperation to upgrade and thinking up ways to do it. Anything higher than that, I'd probably put your time and money elsewhere.

Thanks for the insight (not being sarcastic btw) currently surviving (just) on an old gts250 after selling my 1080ti while gpu rates were high.

I'd happily take any place in a queue for a 3080 right now

Yeah, see that's a little bit more context. There are a few people on here who did that and a lot of them paid the scalper prices, which again was understandable because they had the money and they wanted to upgrade like they always do, instantaneously. Just a bit of a bummer for the rest of us that this also keeps the scalpers going. But it's their money to do as they please with. Plus, not everyone could go to the scalpers as they were banking on what turned out to be a totally fake MSRP, I was one of those people and there are plenty more here.

You made a couple of errors of judgment fella, one was to part with your old card thinking supply would be good enough, the other was to ask the question, albeit quite possibly not intending or expecting the reaction you got. It happens, we all stuff up every now and then. I once bought a Cyrix processor and believed them when they said it was as good as a Pentium :D

It's a case of lesson learned in your case unfortunately dude. This 2080 was never going anywhere until I had a replacement in hand, because of all the hype over these GPUs. If you're ever in that position again and you need the sale of your old card to fund a new one, don't part with it. Save up a bit more. Then you can have the replacement in hand plus you have the funds from the sale of your old one as a nice little bit of cash back a bit further down the road. It really is worth it, I've done that for years, held out for 2-3 months more and then splashed the cash. This was at times when card supply was way better than now.

It's a bummer, but you'll be super happy when you eventually get to upgrade. Time seems to fly during this pandemic.

This thread is dumb and should be locked. Nobody is going to get their mate moved to the front of the que because you canceled your pre-order.

I'm sure OCUK have enough admin work to deal with as it is without adding another variable to the equation.

Nice post active and long time member. I don't think your creeping will push yourself up the queue either :p
