Ripped off all the splashback in the kitchen and started prepping for tiles.

Now need to find some tiles we like.

In a pinch you can use masonry bit, the top tip though is as in those pics, mark on masking tape then your bit won't go 'walkies'. I burnt through a full set when I was drilling through a piece of granite worktop ~40mm thick, melted the glue

. Interesting you can get battery powered mirrors, I always assumed they were mains powered, I wouldn't mind something similar for shaving but don't have any electric points in the bathroom. I also may have fixed my leak, but I'm thinking of it like schrodinger cat and not checking it

Assembled my new cement mixer, mixed concrete and poured it into some foundations for a little underground retaining wall I'm building in prep for the new patio. Ran out of chippings so made the last 2 batches using type one sub base, just needed to pick out the few biggest rocks.

Also brought in 2 bulk bags worth of type one sub base. It's awkward to shovel out of the bags, seemed to hit a large rock with every shovel.

Next weekend I'll be laying a course of flat blocks, spreading out the sub base material and should know exactly how much more sube base material is needed, then will be ready to hire a whacker plate.

A decent 8mm bit would have gone straight through. Too much faff using 4 different bits

Split the bags, is far easier to shovel it off the floor.

A decent stone bit is all thats needed for glass/tiles (just dont use the hammer function lol)

I bought these last year and haven't put them to much use but been impressed so far. I used them on my brothers large 600 wide tiles on his wall and they went through very easily.

Sink still leaks

. I've ordered a bottle type trap as coming out the side will make it easier to install, and I think the whole setup is original at 24 years old so possible o-rings might be perished of permanently deformed.

As for the wet sponge - I had to run both the diamond tipped bits under the tap every few minutes as they were smoking !

Wouldn't a light oil be better or does that stain the tile?

I wouldnt use oil just keep the bits cool in water, take it slow. Ceramic tiles are soft and easy to drill, porcelain takes more time. Slow and steady wins, dont put pressure on the tiles.

It would likely do on the grout, tile should be ok.

putting cutting bits into cold water isn’t the best idea but they are pretty disposable. Better off cutting slowly to stop them overheating in the first place.

Any tilers here? I need to cut a notch out of two tiles, I’ve now smashed four trying to do it with tile snips and a tile cutter... think it’s time to accept I need it wet cut and figure it’ll be cheaper to post it out to someone to do it but can’t find such a service online. So, OCUK, anyone help me out?

How big is the notch? Angle grinder will do most cuts in tile.

Use a bit and brace

, might take a while but I'm 99% sure it wouldn't get hot.

Great general purpose drill bits haven't tried them of porcelain though?

4" grinder would be my go to option, how big is the notch?

I’ve not got anything like that unfortunately.

It’s probably like 55mm long by 20mm wide. It’s just to fit around some cupboards.
