I can't remember what the safe max temperature on cpu package and safe max temperature on cpu? Also safe max vcore voltage? Does anyone know this?

I brought this from overclockers in 2009.

Ok I ran Prime95 stress for an hour as stock @ 3.6GHz at 1.200 vcore with max temp reading Core 0 62C Core 1 63C Core 2 64C Core 3 59C with CPU at 47C with two fans spin at between 706RPM and 940RPM as the room temp are 30C as motherboard and pch reading at 50C max.

My air cooler is
SilverArrow SB-E with two fans with
Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut 12.5 W / m · K 1 g thermal grease as a pea size


No graphic card (using cpu gpu)

Why are you testing at 3.6ghz the cpu boosts to 3 9ghz at default ?

I checking temp on stock speed first then will try overclock it at 4.2GHz (don't think I don't want to risk 4.8GHz at 1.4v with max temp at 80C on all cores!)

4.5 is generally easy for most Sandies. My 2500K did it for its entire lifetime* on (iirc) 1.32v without a problem. Usually just leave all other settings on Auto, set multiplier to 45 and reboot.
See what voltage the chip gets on Auto, then try chipping it down to reduce temps.

Anything above 4.5gig is 50/50- it'll do it or it won't. Oddly, my old one would boot to Windows at 4.7 and 4.8 (not stable, though) but not 4.6 for any money.

I think your chip is fine, your ambient air temp of 30C is why you're a little warmer than you should be. Can you try with a window open? :D
Also- Prime95 is not a realistic benchmark, it puts undue strain on a CPU which it would never be called to do in general use. It's not really recommended these days.

*It's still alive today, in a friend's PC, chugging away happily at 4.5GHz...

4.4GHz at max temp 70c after 30 mins stress test at 1.356v on all auto setting just multiplier to 44 with no problem

Will try push it at 4.5GHz see if it stable on all auto setting just multiplier to 45.

What is best stress test to do it?

Why is Core 3 always the lower temp by -5C?

Thanks for tip. I can see your spec nice AMD Ryzen 5800X with great memory timing 3600MHz at C15 32GB ram. I just unlucky on my Ryzen 4750G with 2133MHz become unstable with Asus Tuf Gaming B550 Plus. Took it back for full refund. I am now saving up for a better AMD Ryzen later in the year maybe go for 5700G.

Updated: just boot up successful and passed cinebench multithreads on 4.5GHz at 1.356v at 72C

Nice result!

I always found 4.5Ghz to be rock solid with my chip, no blue screens or other issues.
The Sandy Bridge 'K' chips were legendary for their overclocking abilities, most of them capable of +40% over stock without any serious tweaking.
You could probably trim a little off the voltage, but given the temps are fine, it's probably not worth it. Going too low could bring instability itself, particularly given the age of the chip.

My 5800X purchase was because my 2700X was getting wobbly. Can't really afford it, but I've done it now... I think I ragged something a bit too hard whilst trying to get the memory working at the right speed. I had good ram, but a bad CPU.
Stick a 5800X in, and boom. It all works!

My I7-2600k did 4.2ghz its entire life on stock volts never went over 60c on an air cooler.

My son is still using it in his PC today, never crashes/never bluescreens, thing is flawless.

It was originally clocked at 4.8ghz and still never went over 60c, that wasnt stock volts though.

The only reason I had to reduce the clock was because the MSI motherboard I had didnt support PCI 3 out of the box, so when it came to upgrading a graphics card, I had to flash the bios to get it to work on PCI 3.

Anoyingly, even as of today, the only bios version they had for that board that supported PCI 3 also lost a whole ton of the overclocking support that was on the original bios, so the most I could clock it to was 4.2ghz.

It was worth the trade off obviously though, losing 600mhz CPU frequency to be able to use PCI 3 cards.

My 2600K was average at best 4.6GHZ with higher voltage, the 2700k lower voltage was golden (chosen by number on /IHS/cannot remember what it is called).

Same for my 4770k, it was average at best 4.6GHZ with higher voltage.

My 4790k again golden, 5GHz lower voltages and 16GB (4 sticks) DDR3 1866mhz - 9 10 9 27 1T @ 1.5v taken to 2200mhz - 9 10 9 27 1T @ 1.55v (VCCSA still only 0.8v not needing 1.15-1.25v).

That is no crippling/lowering the Ring/Cache Bus thingy to get higher clocks (cannot remember all the terms) and Prime95 (the last non AVX build) Memtest/Aida64 stable.

Managed passed my 4.8GHz @ 1.38v with max temp at 75C on all cores. Very impressive with this great sandybridge chip. I can try 5GHz but I rather leave it as 4.5GHz at 1.356v with max temp of 70C for 24/7/365

That looks like a good chip! People used to go up to 1.50v for 5ghz. I had my 2500k at 1.45v for years on a dark rock pro cooler. As others have said, an overclockers dream ;)

TBF back then I was using a 140mm Noctua cooler and now have a D15S, and in both cases offset voltages so it lowers right down to under 1v at idle when it runs at 800mhz AFAIR (Haswell is 800mhz idle).

That looks like a good chip! People used to go up to 1.50v for 5ghz. I had my 2500k at 1.45v for years on a dark rock pro cooler. As others have said, an overclockers dream ;)

Yes wish this sandybridge support PCIE 3.0, USB 3.1, Type C, NVMe slot, 8 cores 16 threads and DDR4 Ram in our dream, because if it does ticked it all, I would stay with Sandybridge for as long it take!
