*** NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3080 SERIES STOCK SITUATION - NO COMPETITOR DISCUSSION ***

Because, for them, it’s not financially worth it. Given that they’d have to spend so much on research & development, production and manufacturing, marketing, support etc. and when you take into consideration how many would actually BUY these machines, it’s not worth the cost.

Basically, if cost of investment doesn’t equal (way) less than cost of return, it’s not worth it.

They could actually save money as all they need do is create an identical card but with no output ports on it. The design and manufacture is the same except for the back plate that has no outputs on it. Saves on HDMI, DP and USB 3 interfaces. Win/win.

There are global shortages of raw materials so a bespoke mining product would only move some things around, not solve any problems. There is no scenario where graphics card stock would be freed up. Either Nvidia would focus on outputting ther mining product to capitalise on the current demand or (more likely) the mining product would be sold out and miners would still be taking every graphics card they can get their hands on. The mining product would have to be a completely different thing developed from scratch and made from different components for there to be any hope of positively affecting graphic card supply and even then the supply would probably still be just as bottlenecked at the moment.

This has been done before p106-100 - which is basically a nVidia 1060 with no outputs (there we 3-4 other models too).. It sold ok but not like you would think, Miners prefer cards that when/if profitability drops they can then sell to gamers on the second hand market.

I acknowledge this is a dumb question, but what is the procedure for pre-order? Do you call sales and ask what's due in and choose a product that might arrive soon?

We're 5 months into waiting now for our cards, there is no soon. I expect my launch hour order fulfilled around April at best.
Pay the scalpers price if you want a card or just forget about them.

@ScottiB Morning
Do you know if the gigabyte shipment ever came in or is it still expected?
Thanks
We definitely received some stuff because I had to spend some time sorting through **** ups. I'm not sure exactly what was received though since it was multiple pallets of varied stock.
