30xx Series Founders Edition

The hard limit for the RAM frequency seems to be about 2800-2900mhz on the 4770K (maybe he just lucked out), according to this guy:

I had all kinds of problems with my 4820K IMC wise - there was a hole around 2400MHz it didn't like at all and wouldn't go past 2600MHz - while my 1650 V2 is another kettle of fish - I've not actually found the limits of it any of the DDR3 I have taps out first - does at least 2900MHz (not really surprising as these 16xx Xeons are top tier silicon and cost thousands in their day).

I can see DDR5 based machines are going to be pretty expensive on launch and still could be a year away.

Zen3 hasn’t even had its line up fleshed out yet, every CPU is sold and will continue to be for some time. There really isn’t any incentive to launch a whole new platform now. Zen 3 or 10th/11th gen Intel isn’t suddenly going to be come obsolete overnight, just look how long the DDR3 based system has lasted.

If your system is struggling now and you have a decent GPU, just upgrade it. If your worried about spending a load of money on a DDR4 based system buy used off the MM, any Ryzen 3000 or 8th/9th gen Intel should be fine and last years to come.

Problem is unless you are running very low resolution or a game that needs more than 4 cores / 8 threads these 4000 series Intels really aren't that far behind the latest and greatest - with a mild overclock I can match or beat 2000 series Ryzen performance (in games - applications is a more mixed story) and get close enough to the 3000 series it isn't worth the money changing to anything less than the 5000 series. But likewise it isn't worth spending money really trying to beat a bit more out of these CPUs either unless like me you have the option of higher core count Xeons and can find one cheap.

I get that CPUs haven’t got that much faster in terms of single core performance but if it’s the difference between playable and unplayable which it sounds like where the poster is coming from then it’s worth the upgrade.

Or, maybe Ubisoft could optimize their game engine performance for once, and not make the PC port of a game worse with patches :D
Have you run the AB overlay to see whether you’re at high 90s GPU usage? If not then you know you’re cpu limited (even if CPU only shows at 70% or so in that overlay).

this is crazy and stressing gamers out

If not getting the latest and greatest graphics card is stressing you out, it’s time to take a serious look at your priorities and whats actually important in life.

Sorry if that sounds harsh but getting the latest and greatest graphics card isn’t very important unless you need it for your job. Even then an older card will still work and generally cost is less of an issue.

Nearly every activity that makes life worth living now is banned and PC Gaming is one of the only things that some people have left, so it's not surprising some people are stressing out if they can't upgrade.

I know we are social animals, but that is a very dramatic view. Like I said, if upgrading your PC makes your life living, some self reflection is very recommended.

Surely it's up to the individual to decide what is important to them. Not some random of the internet.
Nothing wrong with your PC being a priority, I have friends that have cars as their priority, or career.

You’ve just taken what I said completely out of context, I never said it being a priority is a problem. The point I was making is that is if upgrading a PC is having an impact on your mental well-being it’s time to step away.

Easier said than done mate..

I thought I'd be happy with the Gfx card I got but something is pushing me towards trying out the 3080 and DLSS and until I get one I don't think I'm going to be happy.

PS Likelihood of FE drop on NVIDIA today?

is having an impact on your mental well-being it’s time to step away.

But if it was so easy just to step away it wouldn't be having that impact on their well-being in the first place.

People are going to have very different things which makes life interesting or otherwise.

Sometimes sharing a different perspective can let you reflect on yours. I've been on both sides of letting the 3080 hunt get to me when I missed out (6 times now), and at the same time realising it really doesn't matter in the scheme of things. I don't desperately need it, I just want to sort it out so I can move onto other things.

I think for some it's developed into a lockdown addiction especially with people who already have the latest cards still going for more. whether it's financially motivated or just the adrenaline buzz of snatching a rare product, seems to be many examples in this thread of people buying 2/3/4 cards which I guess compounds the issue for those still trying to get one.

Same here, I think deep down I always wanted a 3080 FE but missed out too, settled for AMD card but wishing I had DLSS and RT.

Need to move on likewise with other things in life.
