Sales of takeaway alcohol

We've just been for a walk around the city center as needed some bits and a long walk.
Outdoor and indoor markets were open selling food along with phone repair stalls / shops and a cash converters - I don't see how phone repair shops are 'essential' in any way. Thats for another topic I guess.
Coffee shops are also open for takeaway with many people walking around with coffee and a few groups talking.

In an indoor food outlet (Trinity kitchen) there were a couple of places open for takeaway and people buying. There were beer pumps so asked if I could get a pint for takeaway. She looked at me like I had 3 heads and said "no"

This got me thinking why coffee and other drinks are allowed, but not alcohol. Maybe to stop socialising... but people are clearly still ordering coffee / other drinks and doing this.

We went into North brewing co as it was open and asked about alcohol takeaway. Apparently alcohol to buy and takeaway is not allowed, but I can order alcohol for delivery via Deliveroo or Uber. He said this was killing the pub / bar business as the delivery company take a huge cut. I asked if I could order for delivery to the same place, wait there then pick up the order from Deliveroo/Uber once the guy passed them the order. Probably allowed.

The world seems to have gone mad. I can't see how me picking up a sealed keg of beer and taking it home is going to spread Covid. Less so than walking around town with a coffee actually
 
Takeaway alcohol was specifically banned in Lockdown v3.0. You can have it delivered though.

I'd assume to it's to stop impromptu street drinking.
 
Apparently, takeaway alcohol was seeing people gathering outside pubs to drink it, in previous lockdown, so they banned it this time.

Phone repair shops seem like an essential service to me - what do you do if you need a repair and they're all closed?

well it's kinda essential to have a working phone when so many sites rely on 2FA so much.
if you don't have a working phone your pretty much locked out of a lot of stuff.

Not everyone has a spare old phone or can afford to outright buy a new one.

What is considered essential and what isn't is pretty ridiculous right now though

Literal takeaway gin bars were parked in front of closed boozers this end of the UK.

Hertfordshire. I'm talking about lockdown 1 and 2. Pubs weren't quick enough to adapt so those festival trailers were hauled into pedestrianised streets often just outside the pubs.

What correlation does that have? A well organised risk controlled closed sporting event versus a packed boozer of individuals literally progressively losing more self control and inhibitions by the mouth full?
 
barbers though, was there ever a confirmed outbreak due to a barbers shop?

to most people a haircut is kinda essential, you don't see many politicians if any who seem to have grown long hair.

for a lot of people looking like a state surely impacts the mental well being of that person.

I'm sure most people have a partner or whatever who can do it for them, for single people living alone covid is far worse and easily leads to depression and anxiety.

my mop is looking so bad I've started avoiding leaving the house, last time my barber "I bet you were glad of that haircut", yea thanks mate! I know I looked like a prat

A lot of barbers are essentially social clubs where folks gather to hang out. I think they were getting ahead of it. Agreed tho, am also prat.

Not sure if there are any confirmed cases - but in a situation like a barbers a basic mask is entirely inadequate to prevent infection.

It is frustrating we don't have an effort to find ways to make this stuff work though instead of just put a stop to it and that is it.
