30xx Series Founders Edition

3090 most the time is hours when I brought mine it was there for about 6 hours easy maybe longer that was on the 11/1/21 was after a 3080FE from the start but always missed out and had carried on saving so missed out on that drop for a 3080 again and thought **** it got a 3090 no regrets
I had huge buyers remorse getting mine but it's been great. It was the final push I needed to start mining when it's not in use. Wish I had done it sooner as 8 days in I am £60 in profit and no wasted energy as have cut the heating to my office.

Only wish I had done it sooner. Oh for hindsite. I ditched the coins I mined back in week 1 as they were worthless and it was obviously going no where.

So long as no crashes in next 2.5 months I will have pulled back the 3090 premium and still have a great GPU. I would likely not have done it if I had got the 3080FE ....so it will save me money There is some man logic for you ;)

I looked at doing this, tried it for a few hours and to be fair it was chugging along nicely, but those GDDR6X chips got up to @ 104c even though the card temp was around 54°c, too toasty for my liking, but the performance was great.

I've since undervolted and might look into it again but now my card pulls around 230w - 250w and has dropped to the low 40's in gaming.

Also one thing I noticed is I've had the side panel off the PC for a while now since doing case fan upgrades and fitting the 3090. I noticed the other day how there seemed to be a draught coming from the side (front fan pulling in but some was getting out from the lack of the side panel), I dug out the side panel and chucked it on and the temps have dropped by a couple of °c

With just cooling on my backplate I get 104-106 temps and it worries me too

I am torn, protect the card by fixing the pads but risk giving NV an excuse to weasel out of the warranty or push the card to the limit maybe affecting its life but know NV are forced to look after it for 3 years .

It is the mixed messages about warranty which bug me. It should be simple enough it's either ok or it isn't to replace the heatsink compound etc but NV make it hard (possibly deliberately)

Yeah I would be seriously thinking about changing the thermals if the warranty wasn't at risk, it's a slippery road when you could have incompetent people trying to do the mod and messing it up then trying to RMA.
Maybe someone will come up with a foolproof method which Nvidia will endorse.

Welcome aboard Mike! **been doing this since 2012

I still wonder if adding some stick-on heatsinks on the back plate would make much difference to the VRAM temps. Seems like a relatively simple reversible mod.

Founders drop tomorrow Lads? What do you think- we've had 14 days now since last drop, Europe got a drop last week

I certainly hope not. Its bad enough when you twitch at a notification on your phone, or dream about there being a drop and successfully getting one.

I don't want to spend my weekend worrying about it too, I have better things to be doing. So selfishly I hope not.

Lol I bet you have done ok with that. Good on you for seeing the potential and sticking with it

:D Well its progressed from being into GRID computing and science projects to basically earning something for all the crunching power. In 2012 it just became GPU territory instead of CPU, so being an enthusiast gamer it was a no brainer to user powerful GPU's on mining to earn pocket money. People piping up about it (negatively) in 2017 and 2020 mining booms is beyond being late to the party so to speak!

I decided it was bound to fail after mining a short period right at the start and so went back to the far more sensible..... SETI at home . In my defence I later did some folding at home which is maybe more beneficial than looking for alien radio.

I am still not 100% the currency won't fail long term esp now countries like..... Is it India and Nigeria (cant remember for sure) are banning it and making it prison term if caught trading in it.

But anyone still arguing there isn't money to be made in it now is bonkers.

India and China have been banning it on off for ages. I agree that when its drab I just do other things when its not profitable and give the cards a break. If you dont make hay while the sun shines then your missing out.

If your just disgruntled as your a gamer angry at something, blaming the miners is a waste of energy (pun intended). :)

Well sadly it seems me buying the pads to replace the heat compound strips was a waste of money.

I didn't want to risk ruining the warranty on a £1400 GPU so contacted Nvidia. Unlike the poster earlier in this thread this is the response I got.

It could be of push came to show they would honour it.... But I can't risk it.

Hello,
Thank you for contacting NVIDIA Customer Care.
This is V****, assisting you with the query.
I understand from your email that you would like to know if replacing thermal pads voids the warranty.
Our warranty covers the graphics card exactly as the card is shipped and sold to a customer, once GPU is opened its no longer covered under warranty.
