1080p 144hz build or a laptop?!

Looking to potentially put together a modest build for 1080p 144hz gaming, mostly fast paced games. It all really depends on whether I can manage to get a 3060 when they are released.

Here's what I'm thinking.

CPU: Intel Core i5-10600K 4.1 GHz 6-Core Processor £209.65

Desk space is limited so I'll spend £50-60 adding a 60% keyboard and I'll need to wall mount the monitor. I already have a mouse. So total looks to be about £1200.

The other consideration is a gaming laptop as it similar ballpark price and will be better in terms of space constraints.

They both have pro's and con's its really what suits your needs and the obvious availability. Personally i prefer gaming on a bigger screen than a laptop

Depends how you will use it. If you need mobility, than laptop.
If you will game in your room 99% than desktop.

I did both, but prefer the desktop. More comfy for me and enjoyment.

It might sound a lot but 500gb wont last you long when there are 50gb game installs. I would chuck another 500gb drive in as a gaming drive or find a 1tb drive too.

I only tend to have a couple games installed at a time, I can always redownload on my 900Mbps line.

I'm considering of going for the 5600x vs the 10600K. It's about £50 difference when you factor in decent motherboards.

I have a Logitech G513 and is very comfy. I love it, but if you prefer other brands, you can have a look on Corsair Keyboards.

The noctua nhd15 wont fit its 165mm tall and the case supports max cooler hieght of 160mm. .

You're right! I was looking at multiple cases and had a different measurement in my head.

Agreed, I have one too, wrist support is brill but software is a bit **** so I can't customise game profile lights - I use X not CTL in csgo for 'duck' and I can't change that in newer GHUB or older LGS..

Get the laptop.

I got an rtx 3070 laptop, one with that delivered 150/200watt to the GPU and it was 144hz panel, Intel.
Good performance and it was very compact.

It was overpriced , but was good

I've already built a desktop. I did like the idea of a laptop but I don't need the portability. A laptop is good if you need to move around, otherwise I'd rather run juicy hardware and cool is really well. I can also drop in new hardware as I want.

I'm going to try some other fans out ( Arctic Bionix P120 A-RGB ) as the Phanteks SK120 have a pretty rubbish sound profile at low RPM due to motor noise. I will trial the Arctic fans in the front to see how I get on.
