If i hadnt got myself a gpu i'd def give up gaming on PC and pay scalper price to get a PS5 or Xbox.
only during difficult times you see the true color of people/companies.
Sony's motto is "play has no limits" whereas nvidia's Motto is "price has no limits!"Maybe but like the others they are in the business of making money and right now everyone has an easy excuse to be upping prices.
Sony could easily add 50% on top and still sell everything they have. They need to praised for not jumping on the bandwagon.
PS5 and Series X is definitely more readily available than gpu’s are at the moment with large drops coming into the country since Xmas. Managed to get both at launch and everyone I know has managed to get one from retail outlets since. Getting hold of a gpu is a completely different story. Been trying since October to get a reasonably priced one with no avail. Completely put building my PC on hold now which is a bit of a shame as I was looking forward to get back into PC gaming a bit more.If i hadnt got myself a gpu i'd def give up gaming on PC and pay scalper price to get a PS5 or Xbox.

And tomorrow it will be £1000. But if you don't want to pay that much an RTX 2060 can be picked up for only £499!Yesterday the Sapphire 800XT was listed for £570.. Today it's £800.

I thought you got hold of a 3080?If I didn't just buy a nice new monitor I think I'd be really considering doing the same right now. As it is I'm now even considering just sucking it up and buying the 3090 even at the absurd price (I know it ruins it for the rest of us, I'm sorry, I'm weak)
Not everybody is going to be smart enough to cool the cards (esp the VRAM) sufficiently to mine 24/7.Wow imagine a manufacturer using an excuse to try and get out of a warranty claim for someone mining 1 card or a coupleI wonder if they use that excuse on large editing or special effects companies where the cards are hit far harder hour after hour or data centres. Funny that these same companies are selling their cards directly to the farms by the pallet load.
Edit: That article is from 2017. And in it they point out it isn't possible for the manufacture to know if the card has been mined.

I'm interested in hearing what more people think of the jump, I was really skeptical but I'm loving it

The manufacturers have a point, like it or not. If your average gamer starts using their gaming GPU to mine 24/7, without making any allowance for the extra stress/heat of operating it that way, you're probably going to see a lot more failures. Otherwise your typical gamer might only use/stress the card for a couple hours a night. And the stress patterns are different. More core stress, less VRAM stress than mining.
As said, it was the top result from Google. I'm aware it was from 2017. I was simply pointing out that (some) manufacturers have said that mining is not the intended use for their gaming GPUs. Which they have.
Ultimately, miners will do what they want regardless. They will also try to offload their half-knackered GPUs right before they are expected to fail (they will have a rough ballpark figure for the lifespan of the card, and typically seek to sell it on a little while before it could fail, esp if using the original coolers/fans).
Boo hoo poor manufacturers. I’ll use my card for whatever I see fit it’s up to them to prove the issue has been caused by me.Not everybody is going to be smart enough to cool the cards (esp the VRAM) sufficiently to mine 24/7.

It's not the manufacturers I really care about.. it's the planet, and (a distant second) gamers. Both of whom are worse off with mining than without it.Boo hoo poor manufacturers. I’ll use my card for whatever I see fit it’s up to them to prove the issue has been caused by me.
