*** NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3080 SERIES STOCK SITUATION - NO COMPETITOR DISCUSSION ***

Lifting 'lockdown' won't make the slightest difference. Prices won't drop until there is plentiful supply and that supply depends on how many and how fast the manufacturers can produce them. That has nothing to do with lockdown but a shortage of fabrication space/time.

I reckon coming out of lockdown will make a difference.

When people have woken up to the fact that there is so much more to buy, offers and more to do out there. They won't spend £2,400 on a GPU.

Retailers will flex their prices first! Then realise that they need to sell more and may drop their prices to see the sweet spot and get their gums moving to produce and release these cards.

Depreciation plays a part as well. Electronics have very high depreciation . So a gpu of 1 year ago will depreciate a lot and this is just a bubble waiting to burst. If you spent £2400 on a card expect it to cost far less come sell up time, maybe £700-£800.

It's more of a situation of people withholding stock! If you look around. Many retailers are stockpiling rtx 3080s and 3090s. Scaplers are buying 3 cards each, stock piling and scapling on ebay and Amazon. There is enough out there that will come back into circulation plus the additional amount that manufactures will flood the market with will cause serious depreciation and GPUs on the used market will depreciate to far less what we are paying now.

any updates on the ventus 3080, i know like 5 got sent out, what a long process this is.
The rest disappeared. Again.
Again?! it's only happened once, although, the amount people talk about it you'd think it was a daily occurrence .

We were supposed to get ten in the last batch, we only got five. After questioning the distributor they said that there weren't ten to send us. So that raises the question whether they were lost before arriving at the distributor or did the distributor **** it up? The short answer is, we don't know, and there's no more Ventus on any of the confirmed incoming deliveries.

Its happened previously when a large order mysteriously turned in to a small.

Well, as disgusting and immoral scalping etc is, it's not technically illegal. There is no law stopping you buying huge quantities of something providing you pay from a geniune retailer etc.

I seriously doubt any law etc will be passed, but hopefully I'm wrong. The best we can likely hope for is a strict limit of 2/3 per customer from launch.
Ticket scalping is illegal in the UK, the government might be thinking it's easier to expand that law to other market sectors than to get a whole new law passed.

Again I think there's some confusion there. There have been plenty of deliveries with cards missing, deliveries which part of the stock was delayed and even a couple where Gibbo communicated the same quantity twice in error, but I can't remember, or indeed see any indication, that it has happened with Ventus before. There was once when Gibbo accidentally posted up the system allocation and that was removed once the mistake was spotted and I posted an explanation here.

There are also occasions when people query why they don't move forward the expected number of places, unaware that customers waiting for RMA replacements are allocated stock first.

If the same thing keeps happening to the same card/supplier then I'll definitely raise that with the manufacturer, but I have to give (usually) reliable suppliers the benefit of the doubt for a 'first offense'.

The simple fact is, no matter how many times it gets mentioned, there has only been one shipment of 3080 Ventus since mid-December and half of it didn't turn up.

I'm REALLY hoping that coming out of lockdown will help with the transport costs.
Currently there's high demand for everything...from paint brushes to 4K TVs so the demand for container space on the cargo ships is massive. The lack of commercial flights also adds to that demand. Even if each market sector only sees a ten percent drop in demand and the number of planes in the air starts to get back to "normal" levels, then we might be able to stop paying ten times the usual rate for a single shipping container.

Yeah I understand that but its been 3 months and no real updates
Theres been updates from Scotti, they had to get everyones data that ordered from Ireland and now compile it all to comply with DPDs ways of shipping now, also pretty sure its only been like a month since DPD allowed shipments to Ireland again.
Edit: Scotti has said that the IT guys have our info now and are just trying to have it work with DPD now.

I've given quite a few updates here, the last of which was just a couple of days ago w

last update I heard is that DPD moved the goalposts again, insisting on changing the layout of the shipping labels and we are waiting for their approval on the test labels that we sent to them.
