30xx Series Founders Edition

Thats why you need to make sure you are logged into your account already and refresh it every so often. Captcha appearing is often an early warning sign of a drop even better than Discord albeit you dont know whats dropping.

So when it drops you dont need to use Captcha as you already did it and already signed in with an account. Providing you WFH on a computer of course. Thats how I got my 3080FE. Didnt even need the Discord alert really I was ready and waiting.

People have tried via vpn and have had their order declined due to it being used to order before so some people are getting unlucky enough to get onto the same connection as someone else that ordered. I'm hoping to do it over phone via 4g on a new shop account.

sanbe-3942 selling a nice newly delivered 3080 on auction now for £1749. It's a member on these forums though under a different name.. Here's part of the problem.

Doesn't matter. I'm just highlighting that this is part of the problem. A proportion of the people we see in these threads are selling and not using them.

Its pretty obvious that a lot of people are doing that. Pretty much all of the "for a friend" or "my brother wants to build a pc" are just for them selves to either sell on or mine with.

I was just having a chat with my brother, if I sell my 3080 FE used, I can get almost £1500 for it. That was like 75% of my PC budget.

This came up as I finally convinced my brother to upgrade to 3070 from his trusty Vega 56 and I can't believe the prices! 3070 for £800 on proper big retailers. Mental

AMD and Intel for a new system build, last AMD build was an early quad core way back when so very tempted to return. I always get so stressed with new builds though as I don't uprade often!

I was Intel-only since (IIRC, long time ago) the Athlon XP days, but just switched to a Ryzen 3950x - awesome. 5000 series is better for single-core/games, but 3000 isn't far behind, multi-core is awesome, and (at least when I bought it pre-Xmas) was a lot cheaper used on Ebay (and erm, available).

On my x570 board (MSI Tomahawk x570 Wifi) there was one annoying glitch, ie. that USB external drives randomly disconnected. Apparently an AMD issue and they're aware of it (they may have already fixed it as it doesn't happen much anymore, I say much because I've got an issue with a specific USB3 drive that might be failing and also randomly disconnecting, so not yet sure if the other issue is fixed).

And if you get custom memory timings wrong my board usually just locks up rather than recovers, requiring a BIOS reset. well unless you had lucky timings that don't work but that it at least catches. but for day-to-day it runs great.

yes I do mine on it when I'm not gaming. Why wouldn't you?

My 3080 frequently spends weeks without being switched on. I don't use it to mine primarily because it's a terrible waste of electricity and also because it's an RMA risk for very little reward. How much are you making per day if you have it mining 24hrs?

Good card Dirk Diggler even if you do not use much hang on to it unless you need the the large sums the miners are paying for the cards.

When places like CEX are offering near £600 for a 3060Ti CASH, you know its not just about scalpers, I have no doubt some retailers are filling pre-orders and then sitting on other cards, either to mine with, or to hold while price/demand increases, and then they up the price of those cards accordingly and sell them before their distributor wants paying..
I am however a massive sceptic and suspect a lot of these places are happy to make the extra money while having T&C's that make it look like they are trying to help...

I'm not condoning it and it's part of the problem, but I can see why someone might buy something for £640 and sell it on the next day for £1700........

Would be tempting but the auction site is far too risky to sell such high value items. Easily scammed.

The other place had a drop of 3060ti, gone in a few seconds...

I got a 3060Ti this time after weeks of waiting. Feel very lucky.

Although when the 3070 dropped a few minutes later I did get minor pangs of regret as I would have preferred one of those. Can't complain though. Very lucky overall.

Yeah a true gamer* would not sell a 3xxx FE series after what you need to do to get one. You can see why people do it though.

*true gamer = light hearted pun

It is funny, suddenly this generation everyone wants to buy an expensive gpu for a family member or friend.

I have a 6700K at the mo, before that I was on a Q9550 (from the MM!) for many years, but have always been an AMD fan too! My machine is purely for gaming - 1440p GSync monitor (hence NVidia again this time round). My current GTX 1080 has served me well, but you get addicted to those high frames with high IQ! Hence the 3080 purchase and a suspicion that prices are only going to get worse going forwards too, so figured if I can nab an FE at MSRP then I should do it.

I'm really stuck deciding between a comet lake 8/16, or maybe a 5600X. As far as I can tell PCIe 4.0 is going to be useless for me despite it being a big focus of attention at the moment. If I could just by a 6/12 version of my 6700K and slot it in then I would do that in a heart beat - but no such option sadly. I've see the MSI Tomahawk gets frequently recommended and it's definitely on my list but I'm wondering if a cheaper B550 would suit me just as well (I'm playing catch up really with both AMD and Intel, I'm a little out of the loop). So many options to choose from my head is spinning a little!
