Mondeo MKIV soggy roof

Hi chaps,

Was hoping for some ideas on my latest car based woe.

I have a 2007 my iv mondeo and noticed today that the headlining is sodden. Water is dripping from the apex of the roof and through the rear roof light, and also running down both side pillars to the floor below.

Now this car does not have a sun roof.

To my noddy brain, the only three sources of water can be...

1) a hole in the roof - can't see anything.

2) the aerial rubber perished - yeah it looks a bit old. But this is lower than the apex of the roof, and for water to drip out of the rear roof light it would have to run uphill. Also the front of the head lining is dry (above the windscreen) and this is the first area you would expect to get wet.

3) the rear washer system - now this has not worked since I have owned the car. So there could be a loose pipe somewhere. But the car has been sat for a week or two unused. So I would not expect the car to get wet unless the pump was run!

So all in all I am a bit stumped. This is no condenstational (judging by the amount of a
Water) any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

tbh its a can of worms without you looking most modern headlinings will let the water pool on it due to the construction without looking damp, i had this with my own honda water getting in through a fauly windscreen bond and leaking out down the rear side trim.
as said you need to investigate try parking the car at different angles is it facing uphill/downhill or on the lvl.?

Take the headliner down and have a look?

I was hoping to avoid that, as I cannot find any instructions online for the mk iv mondeo (may just be me being useless), and i am a bit worried once off i will never get it back on. But you are probably correct!

So the water pooled enough to run uphill?

The mondeo roof is curved and the potential ingress points are all downhill of the centre of tha car, so would be suprised if the lining could hold enough water for it to get over the hill if that makes sense.

But it does seem to be what is happening! As the wife says.. water tracking in fabric can be unusual.

Thanks

Mine leaked at the aerial, the black plastic has degraded from years of direct sunlight.

Yeah mine don't look amazing. Have put some tape around it for now, until I get some time next weekend. Just amazes me that the car is on the flat and there is no water signs downhill from the aerial. The water seems to have gone uphill (if coming in from there).

To be fair fella I think you're being a bit too Poirot about this - the only hole in the roof is a plastic aerial, it'll be that. Or your roof is rusted through. Both require to drop the headliner

his manual shows washer tube goes up A pillar .. so that would be my candidate - and liquid has drained to one-side during down time -
I had one become split at a connector in a 3series estate, and grafted a new section from scrap yard front washer setup.

taking apart internal plastic clips during winter is a bit risky - they break more easily, wait for hot day.

Having thought a little. I guess if I work from the front of the car I can just losen the liner enough to see if the water comes in via the aerial and with luck, I won't need to strip the rear half of the car.

Hi,

When you say the A pillar is that the bit behind the front seats where the seat belts attach?

Thanks

first pillar back from bonnet, so windcsreen edge.

the washer tubes do become stressed by long term opening closing of hatch too (it is, genunely, a hatch ?)
