~£15k Coupe Suggestions

The non quattro is about 50bhp down IIRC You really don't want the TT in FWD.

This all depends on what you're after, though I didn't realise they differed the outputs between the FWD and AWD in the later cars - the earlier ones i'm sure are 230bhp regardless. (edit - seems even the later 245bhp cars were available in FWD too)

As much as everyone on here loves to get carried away as if a car is completely useless and boring if it's not at least 300bhp, a 200bhp car that can hit 60 in 6.5s (or 230bhp in 5.7s supposedly on the earlier FWD cars) is still a quick car by most regular people's standards.

If he's looking at the earlier 230bhp versions, I really don't think he needs to get too hung up on the difference and nor do I think he needs to worry about about being bored of it after a few months and wishing he had another 70bhp.

I’d def look for a TT with the B&O speakers in the extras - the basic Audi sound systems have always been a bit naff from what I’ve heard being a passenger in a few of them.

The least important thing in a sports car is the sound system.

One day you might understand that different people have different needs, wants and sources of enjoyment when it comes to cars.

The day I realised this was the day OcUK Motors became a slightly happier place :D

Classic OcUK. Guy gives absolutely no hint that he requires absolutely enormous levels of performance (and the cost that goes with it) and even says he's been considering warm hatches.

OcUK recommends really old mega performance cars.

OP, have you considered a Mercedes CL65 AMG? Or a bank loan and a Ferrari FF?

I certainly see your point. But, to be fair, someone could aim exactly the same complaint at your own recommendations - which seems to assume he needs to aim for a car as modern as possible to be satisfied with the interior - despite the car he's coming from being a very basic 2008 model. A Z4 even of exactly the same age as that Focus is going to feel like a dramatically more opulent place to spend his time.

Are you absolutely certain you're not being swayed by your own preferences, as you're accusing others of being?

I think Fox probably looked at this statement and realised that the interior is important to the OP:

I've also been looking at the GT86 which I understand might be a weird comparison to the TT. It does look great, and it's apparently a really fun car to drive, but interior isn't as nice as the TT

I'd stand and complain at the rental desk if I got offered a TT let alone consider buying one for myself, so I'm fairly sure I'm not being swayed by my own preferences. I'd also personally have a 300bhp car over a 200bhp car every single time. The only car mentioned in this thread I'd want myself is the 640d which you'll note I didn't recommend, someone else did.

It really isn't - have you ever been in an E85/6 Z4? We've had one in the family for 15 years and the interior is absolutely awful :D

I have spent a fair bit of time in 2 different Mk3 TT cabriolet's of late. One with a diesel engine and manual gearbox and the car that just replaced that with a 2L petrol engine and an s-tronic box. Thing that impressed me the most was how solid they are for a soft top. Really feels well screwed together and zero rattles or shake in either car. Newer petrol engined car is quicker and both are lovely inside, typical Audi quality interiors. I had one as a loaner about 12 months back, with a hard top, and that impressed me more than I had expected too. Moved on since the Mk1 quite a way I felt.

I'd never chose one myself as Porsche makes the Boxster, but I could not convince said TT owner that the Boxster was the car she should have and not being able to drive it in these COVID times meant swapped for another TT.

I'd take a bose sound system over anything lesser than a V10.

Especially cars built after 2018

My TTRS has the sports exhaust and it still sounds crap :p

There are some really good sounding 6 cylinders. But exhaust noise is being killed by emissions regulations.

The TTrs always sounded very tinny to me. The Volvo 5 pot in the old Focus ST sounded better tbh :/

Yeah but how does it compare to the greatest showman soundtrack on the bose?

Dunno, I've always found Bose stuff very muddy and lacking mid range :D
Yeah i kind of agree with that, my TT had it and i was never happy with the sound. Got Harmon Kardon in the BMW now, much livelier sound, maybe because HK own JBL which make good speakers?, Dunno, just sounds better to me.

Bose in one car is different than bose in another. The TT I believe is only a speaker upgrade. No amp or sub.

Some manufacturers go as far as upgrading the glass and sound deadening when you upgrade the audio. The Focal system in the new Peugeots is amazing.

It’s Bang & Olufsen in the MK3, the older models had the Bose system. You can get the basic audio, a premium Audi one or the B&O in the Mk3. The jump from the first to the second is big but the jump from the second to third less so (4 to 9 then 12 speaker set-up I think) but still worth it if you’re into your audio fidelity... for a car anyways. No sub regardless so anything under 30hz will suffer obviously.

Of course OP might not give a toss, but I feel like if you’re sitting in something nice it’s a let-down if you stream some music and it comes out sounding like a 128kbps mp3 you got off eMule 20 years ago.

Maybe thats it, even Aston Martin use Bose and it must sound great. Would love to hear Bentley's Naim system, maybe one day ;)
Although i have owned a lot of flashy cars, the Blaupunkt/Pioneer system I installed in my rusty Fiat Uno back in the day still takes some beating lol :p

Sound wise I'm not too fussed as long as doesn't sound bad, a lot of the time I drive without music. I tend to fill the void with my thoughts. :o

This makes sense as you are exactly the kind of buyer the TT was designed for - someone who wants something that looks more interesting than your average hot hatch but that retains a reasonable degree of the practicality still.

A normal 2.0TFSI will be more than entertaining enough coming from a 1.6 Focus, even if it doesn't meet the lofty standards of the OcUK driving purists and POWEERRR thrill seekers, whilst allowing you into a pretty new example with creature comforts like the digital dash etc.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. Sometimes when reading/watching reviews I need to remember that they've experienced so much better in all aspects of a car so when coming from a 1.6 Focus, it's still going to be a more than decent step up.

Not a bad price. I guess for me it may just come down to what sort of price I can get a TT for, if they are around £19-20k (which atm on autotrader they are for the spec I'm looking at), then an extra £2-3k is probably worth getting the TTS. I looked earlier and the only red ones are £22-23k which isn't bad... But then I look at the photos.. Red seats!! Whyy? Haha.

I'm in no rush, so I'll just have to keep an eye out for sales. The decision would be if there's a TT for about £17k, and TTS for around £23k. Would £6k more be worth it to me? Hmmmm.

Edit: Just thought, another option would be getting the TT, then at a later date when/if I want more power, put a stage 1 remap on it which brings it to 300+bhp.

^ Knew that would happen

Mate, get the TTS and be done with it. I've had one, it's a big step up.

oh, and my TTS had red leather with the extended leather pack. It was ace :D

Always easy to just type on the internet that someone should just spend the extra 6k and be done with it. More difficult when it's your money and your decision.

I mean to be honest why stop at the TT? Just get an RS5 and be done with it.
