Will you pre-order or buy a Rocket Lake CPU?

I did consider one because I want a CPU with an iGPU, 6 or 8 cores, that I can buy at a regular retail outlet.
Based on what I've seen so far I'd go for 10th gen ahead of RL.
 
If theres a cheap 8c/16t model with iGPU and lowish TDP I'd be tempted if the price was lower than a 5800 - well I'd at least think about it anyway (as long as there's some well priced mobo's around).
 
Fair enough. Another reason some people might choose Rocket Lake, is that the early reviews showed it in a bad light. I suppose it's possible we *might* see performance improvements in the final reviews. The thing is though, these were full retail CPUs running at the intended clocks, not engineering samples...

Personally, the only one I might still consider is the octa core 11700F, which is ~£100 cheaper than the 5800x. Ofc, a cheaper 5800 (oem) / '5700x' would blow both these options out the water, but it ain't happening...

Nope. Will stick with my 3700x if i don't get a Zen 3 chip, atm i have little/no reason to.

I'll see what Zen 4/5 and Meteor lake is like in a couple of years, and by then we should have more decent DDR5 speeds and pricing. And hopefully a big jump in CPU perf.
 
Nope. Efficiency and power draw are very poor in comparison to the equivalent AMD stuff. If your performance is 1% higher and you need 50% more power to achieve it, no thanks.
 
Already went for a B550 and 5800X system. Intel missed the window (not that it sounds like it will even compete with Zen 3).

These (Zen 3) chips I think will be as legendary as the Q6600 or 2600K imo.

They will be the best chips of the DDR4 era.

You may well be right, although I would add Skylake to the list. The i7 6700k at 4.8ghz was a stunner when it came out.

Yeah did look at 10850k last month my friend got one at a good price. I don’t mind waiting as my power supply does not come in stock till end of May and also other things I need to buy as well for my new build like a monitor , keyboard, desk , more Ek hard tube connections, dark hero motherboard and the gfx card for 3080 or 3090 when they become available again
 
I have a 10600k so am considering an 11700k as a drop in replacement but its gonna depend on how the final reviews shake out. From what we know so far its not looking very good so i'll probably just stick with the 10600k or maybe grab a 10850k while they are still cheap.

If I didn't already have a z490 board I'd be going AMD for sure through.
 
I'd go for a Ryzen 5800x at £350, but the RRP is $449 at the moment, $150 higher than the 5600x.

I'd guess they are having trouble producing them, as they never seem to be available to buy direct from AMD.

I think the latter is more down to AMD not being able/willing to sell in the UK post-brexit, or not yet at least, think the theory is their distributor dropped the ball in getting setup for it...

There seems to be 'reasonable' stock of 5800X's, often in stock, but priced too high/above RRP, still...
 
Well, the 5800X is expensive in the US too. I think it's mostly because it's the best CPU for gaming (more cores barely makes any difference atm) and AMD knows they will sell them all with relative ease.
