3090 Worth it Over the 3080??

Last I saw and now maybe only 12GB of RAM........needs an unhackable mining lock on them too, then gamers might get them, so we can get back to

'the way it's meant to be played' and not 'mined'.
 
Its folly though isnt it? The 3060 has a driver available that can mine on it. They never said if it stopped any other algorithms other than ETH so its still a target for miners and gamer hybrid miners.

People will pick up what they can get hold of. So my thoughts are even if a 3080Ti is released 'miner proof' it wont stop the miner types from buying it. i.e. waste of time.

Better to focus on actually ramping up yields so that people can buy regular cards of 3070, 3080, 3090 and stop messing about with these stupid Ti flavours altogether.

You’ve got to admit, less vram than a 4 year old 1080ti is a bit weak :D

It certainly is a bit odd but then again, look at benchmarks and ask yourself if you were given the choice, would you really take a lesser card like the 1080ti, even a titan rtx over a 3080 just to have more vram?

It would be if it was still GDDR6 on it. I know what you mean though doesn't grab you first glance. But GDDR6X is twice as fast or can potentially handle twice the throughput though currently still has 21GBs bandwidth same as GDDR6, but 6x can do it at lower speed =lower voltage = less power, less heat, more OC'ing headroom and potentially double the performance. It is dang expensive stuff too. Probably go the way of HBM in the end.

Though my card does chuck out some heat and I only imagine that's more from GPU die than the RAM? WHo knows. Still, no real data that the 10GB of 6X isn't enough yet. Please no one post broen unoptimized games like CP2077 or MS2020 - those games need work, not new cards.

''Metric'', stop with the pretense. I can't account for your inability to do some basic research, or in making the wrong choice. You'll have to live with those failings. 3080ti £1000+ MSRP, 12 GB Vram...Oh my.
