NEW Pay-by-mile car insurance

Just unplug it for a while to balance it out? :p
lol. could do, but the black box pings their servers pretty often. so once it's unplugged i'll get a text message saying that it's unplugged, and they'll charge me at my average daily mileage unless i plug it back in lol

2003 Accord estate 2.4 petrol. By miles price is almost double what I currently pay with a specialist insurer but on a par with internet comparison site quotes. Specialist insurers aside (youre not getting close to what I pay via greenlight), id want at least 20-30% cheaper than other insurers to have the black box fitted.

So find the "black box" and wire a toggle switch to it's power :D

12v DC power supply and obd2 pin-out is your friend. ;)

Because people fit bigger brakes usually to help them drive faster.

Driving faster = more aggressive braking than driving normally therefore you need bigger brakes to cope with your aggressive driving style

therefore bigger brakes means you will be taking advantage of what they offer being able to go faster and drive more aggressively than if you had smaller brakes as you know the smaller brakes can't handle being abused as much.

I've fitted bigger brakes to mine, mostly because the standard ones were dire.

Told my insurance about them and got a reduction in my premium. Classified by them as a safety upgrade.

Resurrecting this oldish thread. My GF has signed up with bymiles as she drives around 20 miles a week too and from work. :D she gets charged 3.3p a mile. There’s a little black box that’s plugged into the car port. The app tells you what you’ve spent on every drive. You can see your route, test your car with the box and see it’s location. You can also work out the cost of each drive by adding the starting and ending postcodes.

I don't drive too many miles a year around 3500 ish, is that still too many to get the best out of this? I did a quick quote and it's way higher than what I paid less than a month ago. If I didn't do any miles it was £150, I paid £180 for the year, with a conservative mileage it was coming at about £262.

depends on your risk profile. i do about the same mileage too.
i've been using bymiles for 15 months now, and i save ~25% in comparison to a "standard" insurance (440i)
my friend (yaris) saves about 60% using bymiles

Aviva and Quote me Happy won’t touch any mod at all.

Another thing I’ve noticed is that dual car/bike policies are more expensive than insuring the cars/bikes individually.

The highest I've paid in years is only £400. I just can't see these schemes being cheaper.

Obviously the cost of fitting a tracker is going to included in the price..
