Nvidia Re-Size Bar/SAM support is live for some cards, more in March - 10% performance gains

Seems Nvida`s ReBar isnt as polished or ready for the market as AMD SAM
Main problem is it isn't baked into the experience for most of the Ampere cards, I'd imagine going forward they'll probably have this as standard for any future cards.

Well any cards that haven't been scooped up by scalpers/miners/aliens that is. :P

Sounds like you are running out of video memory.
Nope, tried 4k with visual effects low and high textures, cant replicate the fps drop anymore. it's a weird problem with that particular setting for some reason
Have you got a Pagefile?
yeah a huge one at that, 16 gb... for the damn flight simulator  anything below 10 gb pagefile crashes flight simulator for me (i see 15-16 gb usage of ram so it may due to my ram, actually)

its actually funny, because it doesnt even use 1 gb of pagefile, yet it requests huge pagefile. i dont know what the hell that is about

No problems with a Strix OC 3090 with a Dark Hero on the latest bios.
Only a relatively fresh build though, so cant really reference it against beforehand.

Flight simulator eats up 24gb ram (system ram not vram) on my system

I managed to replicate Godfall FPS drop WITHOUT resizable bar enabled. It is a weird game where rtx 3070 performance suffers randomly. I lowered visual effects to low and all fps drop is magically gone. weird stuff

It's not random at all, 8gb vram is not enough for Godfall, simple as that - Nvidia is scamming people by selling 8gb cards in 2021 buy at your own peril

I wouldn't be surprised with that, as I already had been having big FPS drops and freezes in Borderlands 3 after 20+ minutes of play on 8GB 2070S. Just run out of vram. With my current 6800 I have 0 issues in bl3 or any other game (in that regard, there are other issues), even in ultra wide 1440p.

okay, i back track, lol it really runs out of vram

game play fines in these moments, 60+ frames;

all of a sudden it drops to below 40 and stas there;

nothing changes, same scene, no action happens. either a bug, or vram choking out

tried lowering textures to medium but to no avail.

i managed to replicate the same frame drop with all texture settings from low to ultra at 1440p

it's only a matter of time, it goes fine for a time, and then drops randomly. sometimes it plays fine for 4-5 minutes, only to fail after. sometimes i just load the game run to the first monster area, and frames drop

PmQqP6K.png

when it drops frames, you can also observe low power consumption

in the first days his happened, i suspected about my PSU. i wondered if it started to fail to properly deliver power consumption.

when you get 60+ fps, gpu gets loaded with 200w+ as it should based on its tdp

when these frame drops occur, gpu power consumption is getting absurdy low ranging from 140w to 180w

now that i found a similar incident in this video, now that i can say it's not on my config or my psu, but it's on rtx 3070

i also reported the issue to the developers of game but we shall see. is it possible that gpu shuts off fp32 when its vram is choked out? dunno what happens there, really

The game has a recommended vram capacity of 12GB or greater so I knew you were running short. :)

yeah yup

outside of benchmark, resizable bar increase the frames, outside of vram constraints... XXD

this game as of now nullifies the whole argument that "when it has not enough vram, it will not be able to push high framerates in those settings anyways". 3070's raw gpu power can reliably hit 60+ fps at 1440p. of course we need confirmation that it drops frames because of its vram, but it is most likely due to it

i reported the issue to some reviewer channels. probably 3080 will get hard choked with rt enabled as well at 4k lmfao, it will probably perform worse than a ps5 which would be hilarious to expose

btw with rt disabled, problem completely goes away, i tried my best to hit the vram constrainst but i couldnt. so tests must be done with rt enabled patch/driver

Has anyone been able to update any of the Palit 3090s?. I have the GamingPro OC and get the message:

No need to update your VGA BIOS! (or not support for your VGA card)

Exactly the same card as you and exactly the same message.

I read in a forum that Palit are aware of an issue.

I got beep codes from the speaker when I tried to update bios, but luckily seems to have just reverted to normal bios settings before bricking anything!

Let me know if you have any success.

I am just keeping the Palit 3090 gaming pro oc bios page up and awaiting a new bios and will not try and flash again without seeing if someone has done it successfully!

Sounds like a typical vRAM capacity problem - it starts swapping data in and out of your normal RAM (you should see RAM usage moving up too), which is way slower than internal memory speed. And so GPU waits for that to happen and FPS drops while power usage also drops, as it has nothing to do but waiting for data to swap. However, in many cases it's just sloppy programming more than anything - game allocates more than it should or it has memory leak and over time fills in vRAM more than it should. Though, this happens so often and is so rarely being fixed (unless it causes crashes), that more vRAM simply protects you from such sloppy programming, in many cases. 8GB is just "right" now, hence any smallest bugs like this in the engine and it will spill over (like BL3 did for me).

3080 already suffers in this game due to video memory. It has significantly lower minimum FPS than the 3090 when the performance difference should only be 10% or so.

The Palit cards 3090s will not update, I have emailed Palit and they asked for the serial numbers of my cards so they can send me the right BIOS.

I have the 3090 GameRocks cards. So email them at :- [email protected] with your card model and serial number and explain the issue you are having with that message when updating your card, It was same message I got too as you got.

Email reply today from them :-

Dear customer

Thank you for the mail.

Please kindly provide the S/N of the graphics card to us.
You can find the S/N from the product box or the sticker in back of the graphics card.
We will provide the latest BIOS (support Resizable BAR) for you accordingly.

Thanks.
Best regards

I have just updated my Zotac 3090 bios and rebar is now showing as enabled in the nvidia control panel, wont have chance to test any games yet as work is calling.

Not expecting much but at least support is there now.

getting tame and nice framerates without ray tracing with low vram usage as well at %200 resolution scaling

it seems nvidia ray tracing for this game is gg. found a video where rx6800xt used 9 gb vram on 4k ultra, and 14 gb vram when rtx is enabled

wonder how series x with its 10 gb fast vram will handle this game  if the vram load spills to 336 gb/s part, i guess it wont be able to 4k

The console aren't really doing 4k ultra IQ at 120fps though. To achieve that they scale back the IQ to achieve the FPS.

So is godfall the new go to game for "VRAM arguments" since the supposed claims on HZD texture issues on the 30xx cards was debunked..... :p ;)

Godfall doesn't even look that good. Shadow warrior 2 has a similar style and looks way nicer imo. Literally no reason why godfall should be using that much vram....

That's great thanks for that!
