Don't know much about the server market but in desktops intel has been the best bang for buck choice for months now which doesn't help AMD at all. AMD does not seem to be after marketshare anymore. They did try to gain marketshare with Ryzen 1xxx and Ryzen 2xxx pricing models and maybe they didn't get the results they expected.

You are looking at retail not OEM, where the actual volume is that matters and we don't know what they discount they are getting (or what they are being paid) to use Intel/AMD CPU's. OCUK probably sell in one whole year the number of CPU's that HP sell in one single model, in one region, so desktop isn't solely retail.
I can't possibly comment on either AMD's or Intel's support in the server space but what I do know is that the lifespan of the average corporate server is generally about 5 years and for smaller companies it can be much much longer. It doesn't matter If AMD make the best server cpu's right now they need to remain competitive for many years to come to get a decent share of the market.
For some reason the AMD shills seem to think that Intel is done and finished as if AMD landed the killer blow already. Intel will bounce back, that's 100% certain just as AMD did after years of poor uncompetitive products.
I guess AMD have excellent support and reliability with so many major data centres getting onboard.
Working in the enterprise space, sadly the people with money and who make decisions are not necessarily technically minded and they look at you funny if you mention AMD. It's the same as the sales teams by Dell etc, they massively favour Intel due to volume available as well as discounts etc.

Of course intel still sell better, particularly in enterprise, they’re the huge incumbent.
The point is the tide is turning. ARM is more competitive than ever, moving into the server space and mainstream end-user market (M1). In the x86 space AMD are currently ahead on the tech.
It’s not over for intel by a long way, but their dominance is coming to an end, at least for a while.

Intel shills sure do like to put words in other people's mouths.
Intel can sustain years of mistakes and still maintain their market position but the important point is that's fairly irrelevant to us as end consumers. Better to put Intel's feet to the fire, a little bit of criticism won't hurt their feelings but it's worth stressing them being complacent and focusing on profit margins at the expense of everything else is not to *our* benefit.
Intel can't hold AMD or ARM off forever, no matter how many sweetener deals they offer, eventually they are just selling these chip's on the cheap to stem the loss of market share, every little 0.01% AMD and ARM gain is more than they had before, keep chipping away......
BTW, buy lots and lots of Intel's £150 CPU's, great CPU's, it will do their bottom line a world of good

My first Intel was a P233MMX and growing up I never really had any interaction with AMD CPUs until a little unit down on Fenton imex business park started doing Slot-A Athlon K7-700's overclocked to 750 lol
I've had intel 233s, celerons, Q6600s and I've also had K6, durons, semprons, FX series and now Zen.
It's good to see competition and I hope AMD grow their market share moving forward to provide the consumer with choice and availability once things calm down.

AMD is loosing marketshare as they do not have enough 7NM capacity,and even their 12NM APUs are nowhere to be seen. The issue is now so bad,that even for entry level/mainstream DIY PC builders Intel is competitive again. A lot of enthusiasts here think most of the DIY market is £300+ CPUs when it isn't,or have not walked into a computer store or looked online at prebuilt PCs and laptops. Most of them are Intel as supply is more plentiful. This is in the US and Western Europe - in many other parts of the world,supply is even worse. I was surprised to here that even a budget CPU like the Ryzen 5 1600AF was mostly available only in Western Europe and parts of the US at anywhere near its actual RRP. This tells me AMD mostly only targets a narrow range of markets.

1xxx and 2xxx series didn't really had the performance in games - even 3xxx. only 5xxx managed to be in a good possition, but if they don't care, Intel is happy to provide the alternative, for sure.
