Is this 3080 a decent buy?

I wouldn't trust most people to install a cpu let alone install a water cooler on a card.

I won an ebay auction for a CPU earlier in the year and 2 days after I won the auction I got an email from the seller that went something like this:

"Hi there, unfortunately when I took the CPU out to sell it to you I bent some of the pins and also damaged the motherboard in the process. I think they could be fixable so do you still want it?"

i know, i had a guy who bought my on ebay.

Then proceeded to damage it, bending the pins and covering the entire underside of cpu in thermal paste. He then claimed it was damaged in transit.

retards everywhere.

I have the chance to own this card, below it will come fitted with an ek water block, is the card a decent card to consider buying? price tag is £900 and it is a private transaction so no competitor rules have been broken in this post
EVGA NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 10GB XC3 BLACK GAMING Ampere Graphics Card
I own this card & it’s a beast ! In fact it’s one of the best oc cards you can buy ! Also one of the best mining cards I paid £1100 for mine of a scalper not completely as the current rate is around £1300 for this card , so yes buy it

The audacity, but at least even if was broke in the first place and they were trying it on they let you know before sending it - assume you refused and got a full refund?

Like, 3080 gives around 250$ mining profit a month. And people are wondering if its worth it. Lel.

Funny tho, in retrospect, Jensen wasnt kidding when he said ‘ the more you spend, the more you save ‘.

Those that bought 3xxx series at launch already made 2x what they paid. And the higher end the card was, the more profit they got out of it

Yeap eBay decided to refund him .5600x wrecked.

Lost out 350£ got the CPU but it's wrecked.
I had pictures of it before I sent it. They deemed that damage took place in transit.

eBay is a joke

Unfortunately this is how it works - a buyer who knows the system can, 99 times out of 100, screw over any seller with zero risk. There's no defence against it, and if you try you usually end up losing the product AND the money. I'm sure there are also some "vigilante" types out there who are specifically targetting new sellers of CPUs/GPUs to try and scam people who they think are scalpers.

On the other hand... why take that chance when a high street electronics exchange chain will buy your hardware at close to EB prices, with zero risk to you?

I guess you make a bit more on the EB? that's why people would take the risk?

Point taken. I asked a rhetorical question, when what I really meant was "using the auction site is basically playing Russian Roulette with your money" :p
Totally agree with you, I think most of the time you’d be fine but on that one time you’ll be really in trouble
