Fence post stump has me stumped.

I had the same problem so did the pour infamable spirits in there with some starting sticks and bingo -

Didn't work - once the flame is going it needs air and the air couldn't get to the flame - I tried putting a tube down the side for air - That didn't work.
In the end I use one of those flat plate post clamps - The hole was in the slabs so it bolted down to slabs.

PITA job

You need to lift a slab, dig it out and then put the slab back in. Wasting a load of time. The hole needs to be bigger anyway or when you put your post in, your not going to be able to get enough mix in to keep the post in place.

Quite straightforward to make thermite #justsaying

Buy/borrow/rent a decent sized SDS hammer drill and a long drill bit to loosen up the soil all around before yoinking it out? Smash a metal pole in, add a fulcrum that and lever it out?

Im with the Others SDS and a chisel attachment.

The other option would be to fill that hole in and move the post up 30cm

You could even (neighbour permiting of course, start digging at the top right making a larger hole towards the post and then yank it that way.
Its not as if that few sqft of their garden is landscaped or owt just looks like dry mud

We had a fence replaced a few years back. Not only did they remove the fence, they took out all the old postcrete from the previous fence we'd dodged around to put the next one in the ground. It was just two big blokes with a couple of breaker bars, and they just levered it all out of the ground. Never underestimate the power of a big lever.

I think you're overlooking the fact that two chaps who rip fence posts out for a living are built like brick **** houses :p

When I was working at music festivals across the UK, it was amazing to see how quick they'd erect the steelshield that protects the perimeter of the site. Something like 2 hits, always bob on target, to get a 5ft steal stake in the ground. Wouldn't want to get in a fight with those chaps!

Early this year we did a fence post, and I have to disagree with the other posters suggesting SDS. A neighbour lent us two chisel ended crowbars of different lengths, which could be thrust directly downwards, and then whacked with a lump hammer. In a confined space this is the best way, and the long bar will give you the leverage needed to get the remains out
