Formula E 2021.

Sorry if this already exists.
Just watched most cars run out of energy. What an horrendous noise! How do people enjoy this?
The noise isn’t so bad, it means they can race in city centres without annoying thousands of people. The racing is decent and they ran out of power due to the safety car, usually they take away a set amount of power if there’s a safety car but some teams miscalculated when the chequered flag would be and ran out.

I quite like it, possibly because its a little bit of a novelty, was amusing seeing a load just running out of juice. :D Mario kart go faster zones are epic.

I like it.. it's not got the glamour or the noise of F1 but many of the races have had some cracking racing plus the attack mode is actually useful as a strategic element.

Fan boost can suck the big one, though

I wouldn't want that screeching noise in my city, it's horrendous. We might just as well watch RC racing at least it's relatively quiet.

I love Formula E - been watching it since it's inception and never missed a race. Been interesting watching it evolve from the initial car swap era to what we have now with attack mode. I find it more interesting that F1.

The sound doesn't bother me, I usually have the "commentary with music" running.

I enjoy the Extreme E series as well hat's started this year with teams from Jenson Button (who actually drives in it), Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton.

Yes, I enjoy the 45 mins + 1 lap setup they have, makes for interesting races, especially with the driver ability shining through rather than the car. It will be great however when they are allowed to unleash the full power of the cars, and have a less formulaic approach though, pun totally intended. :)

Just goes to show it does not work on a proper track. All ran out of batteries lol, not all that interesting.

I can't imagine paying £100s to go and see that at Silverstone etc. Too short an event, too slow, the noise is headache enducing. On their normal street based tracks it's dirt cheap for a ticket so that people actually go. I'm not sure how a track would make any money from it.

Except they didn't, they had over 35% left, but they are only allowed so much power consumption per race, and each lap behind the safety car energy gets deducted, and as the races are time + 1 lap then the length of the race isn't fixed.

It was very poorly reported in the media they didn't 'run out of power' they had 5 safety cars in the race and it was wet so I'm sure they had a ton of power left!!

Like Journey says they deduct power off their usable energy every lap behind the safety car so they don't just go flat out when it goes green again. The last safety car came in on the cusp of the time running out but Da Costa crossed the line with a few seconds to go meaning everyone had 2 laps left not 1 and it caught pretty much all of them out! Not the series finest hour but I'm sure they'll adjust it in future.

I, like a couple of others in this thread have watched since inception and enjoy the series. Usually some good racing (especially in the more recent series when *most* of the drivers on the grid are top drivers) and the attack mode does add a but of strategy into it.

I can only imagine the bad press associated with them purporting that the batteries had run out rather then it being to much power being consumed as per the race directors specs on how much power can be consumed would lead to adjusting as didn't read well in a lot of articles.

Hopefully a scenario that can be avoided in the future.

An extra note, until the cars are considerably faster, they shouldn't go near permanent tracks as to me the cars looked lost on the circuit and think street tracks fits in with "Formula E" far better. I'm sure when we get to Monaco there's going to be a lot of F1 vs Formula E comparison from the naysayers as using a lot of the same track from what I can see which is sort of missing the point.

Monaco on 8th May is going to be excellent, especially as it will be way closer to the F1 layout, even if not exact. They haven't released the finalised layout to the general public (unless I missed it) but they said they wanted to keep it different, so as to not allow track time comparisons between the series which I think is a shame.

Not that much room in monaco to introduce extra chicanes like they did at valencia, but maybe tightening a few corners artificially.

Fingers crossed for a good event!

Liking that each venue is also a double header aswell for this season.

I've heard there are only a few changes from the F1 circuit, so interesting as I've not been to Monaco since 1978/9..

Yes, the noise is a touch odd, very much like supercharged milk floats with wings on...

Having driven electric cars for a while the noise doesn't seem that odd to me.

I'm guessing yours has a bit more sound deadening, and an enclosed cabin, vs your average FE car...

Hope the rain stops though, although good for crashes, I've got wet feet..

Cars look really fast when in 'first person' mode, and the Monaco track is great to see again.

The full power quali laps are going to be great looking at the amount of sliding going on.

Yeah, looked great at 6am when we got to track, got a nice shot over the harbour with the sunrise, only another 10.5h and then we can go home again lol
