AMD RX 6700 XT overheating

It's most likely a software/driver level issue, trouble is the guy doesn't have the experience to sort it.

Had some strange goings on with my 6800XT if I fiddle with the fancurve.

Yes there is a 30 deg c difference at the core and edge. When the card was fine and on auto settings the temp was around 75c at the core and 65 at the edge. When I first started getting problems I noted the core jumped to 90c almost instantly when in a game. But the outer edge was still in the 65 range. As soon as the card topped 93 the gpu shut down. On googling the problem it was advised to under volt by a 100. Then adjust the fan curve. I had it set at 50% at 75c 70% at 80c and 100% at 90c. This worked for a few days, the core temp came back to normal 75c. But it didn't last long. Even at normal temp the card just cut out with a black screen, only a hard reboot fixed it.

The Junction temp is usually the higher one by about 20-30c when under load.

Update, just spoken to the shop looking and testing the pc. He's found that the main cooling system wasn't setup properly and causing the cpu temp to jump up to 100 deg c, instead of it increasing throttle it was slowing down. Said the main cooling system should be at a constant 100%. Also the adrenaline software and the automatic setting for the clock speeds has a problem with the software as intended of automatically setting the clock for boosting when it needed too it was severely over clocking the gpu well above where it should be, was advised to use standard settings, so far they have it running all day on the gpu under stress and 100% and no issues of shutting down. Atm they are doing a cpu burn

Looks like that, so far they haven't had any problems and found nothing serious, except for some cooling setup issues. They been benchtesting it for 2 days now so hoping this is the problem from cooling and bad software on the adrenaline side. Fingers x-ed and just waiting till they finish and get it back, at least its had a proper bench test and not a 5 min job lol

Yup it just looks like a poor job by the builder, lesson learned! Some excellent big system builders out there atm providing pretty good value for money, I suggest you trust one of those next time!

Not necessarily, if the main cooling system is controlled by the bios, and I did a recent update, its possible the update over ridden the settings for the cooling system. I know it messed up my settings for the ram. I had to reset the ram back from 2333 back to 3600. And I didn't know I had to redo the cooling system. Its a possibility. However you are right you do need a reputable builder, though who do you trust? Def a lot of people that can talk the talk and still rip you off.

I spoke to another customer he had that had a custom build for her son, again she had a devil of a time getting a recipt. After i said what I been though she got worried.

I tecieved a reply from citizens advice, due to the the fact my card became faulty after I bought it, there is nothing I can do. I can still report him to trading standards, but though their info they will log it, and that's it. So these warranty's you get arnt worth the paper they are written on. If you bought from a high end reputable store then you have a good chance to get the fault sorted.

If you haven't the experience to replicate the original bios' settings (which it seems that you don't) then I recommend that you do not do this.
He gave me instructions over web chat, but he failed to tell me about the rest of the settings. I was assuming updating a bios wouldn't change preset setting, I've done many bios updates in the past, just followed instructions to the letter. I agree with the last post I've never had to adjust bios and just left them as stock setup, with all the previous pc's I've had since they first came out. However this is a more advanced pc than Ive ever had with water cooling and fan cooling. I'll wait till I get the pc back and get a full report on it. Its been benchtested last 3 days so it's had a proper full run

Never had to touch cooling settings in any pc i have ever built, stock settings should be perfectly adequate

If you are using an AIO CPU cooler in many situations running the pump effectively requires a manual setting in the BIOS. For example if fan stop and low fans speeds are set by default an AIO cooler could easily heat soak because it is not running at all or too slow. This is why many more modern motherboards have a fan header for AIO or waterpumps.

Yup once it's all back and running as it should then I'd personally leave it well alone!

Hi, Got the PC after a few day`s at the shop, there were quite a few problems, most were down to the actual build and setup. The water cooling system in the bios was tiered wrong, instead of running 100% 100% of the time it was tiered at 1, 100% 2,75% 3,50% and so on, so as the CPU was getting hotter the cooling system was getting slower. The entire cabling system has been though, found the extra support bracket to support the GPU in place and aid with the size and weight was 1 slot lower than it should have been, so a very slight chance the card could have lost connection with the MB, also the 8 pin socket wasnt fully connected properly. So a possible loss of connection. The Adrenalin software from AMD is still messed up till they fix it, I have to leave it on standard settings with a custom fan arc. He`s managed to bring the max temperature down by 20 deg C, so under full load doesn't go above 85c and the fans kick in at 3,500 rpm instead of the standard automated settings of 1,500 rpm. He`s had it running flat out several day`s with no issues after fixing the problems and got it back and ive had no probs either, so im happy. for the time spent wasn't expensive either, only charged £35. Also said dont update the BIOS in future as it will need reconfiguring. Only current issue he cant find is the case fans speeds are not adjustable though they should be.

Unless you manually changed stuff in Wattman in the Adrenalin software, the driver should not have been overclocking the card by itself.
