Need CPU for GTX 1080TI

HI, i would like to upgrade my CPU form my current i7-4700k, with this i will need new MOBO and ram, what would be the best CPU to go with my 1080TI?

im looking for best buck for money option here. thx
 
Nothing really in most games if you OC the CPU to at least 4.6GHZ and game at 1440p (it is a 4770k or 4790k)?

Be different if you had a newer GPU but again not night and day.
 
Going for new RAM, CPU and Motherboard will be pricey, unfortunately you originally bought in right at the end of the DDR3 era, so there is not much upgrade path.

I personally would keep the 4700k until the Intel Alder Lake which I suspect will be the part to have this year, which should appear toward the end of 2021.

If you want to buy right now, then I'd go with a B550 board and a Ryzen 5600x. AMD is killing it right now, and that chip will max out your 1080TI easily and provide headroom, for a GPU upgrade in the future.

Ahh ok, many will not get past 4.6GHZ and to even get there with decent voltage may be hard, the Devil's Canyon 4790k's are far better.

is it worth waiting for the ddr5? is that coming out anytime soon ?

Maybe end of year/next winter.
Probably going to cost arm and leg first like every memory type has been.
Also so far only known modules have latencies literally sucking donkey balls.
Alder Lake leaks put latency at 110ns:

For comparison current DDR4 platform Intels get below 50ns.
And Ryzens with chiplet design and separate IO-die are between 60-70ns depending on how tweaked memory settings are.

So at first DDR5 is going to be challenge for gaming performance, which is mostly about access latency instead of bandwidth.
 
A B560+11400F would be the best value option and if you sold your current CPU, board and ram to offset the cost you would be looking at around 100 quid net spend for the upgrade.

It's said by the rumor mill that DDR5 will be coming with Alder Lake (new intel CPU's) which should be launching before the end of year.

If you don't want to wait that long, then look into either the 5600x which I suggested, all in you're looking at £400 - £600 for that upgrade, or else maybe a 11400K build.

Better to wait... but if you HAVE to then a step to a Ryzen 5 5600X, B550 motherboard and 3200Mhz C16 would be an upgrade, but not really something you're going to notice in 99% of gaming witha 1080Ti... just keep your powder dry until AM5 drops.... and pick up a 2nd hand X570 board, 5900X CPU and THEN you'll be getting a REAL upgrade :)

I'm wondering whether I should be recommending a forex company now. :D :P

MSI B560M PRO-VDH WIFI, and either an 11400f or 10400f, and some cheap DDR4 3200MHz RAM. Total cost should be ~£280, then sell your old CPU, motherboard and RAM for £130+ depending in the board and RAM type and amount.
