Had the 3080FE first good card, heavy, poor memory cooling and loud over 70c very good at undervolting

6900xt second - runs cooler, is quieter, and faster except on RT games.

For me 6900xt wins but you need to make sure it fits your case!
 
I'll find it hard to pick AMD over Nvidia this gen... feel i'll be missing out on something.. DLSS and the ray tracing capabilities (although many think full RT is still a thing of the future).. if AMD cards become more of a bargain and FSR turns out to be solid then maybe i'll be thinking different.
 
As I mentioned a few posts previously, I ended up buying a RX 6800 XT.

My reasoning was this:

Rtx 3090 just way too expensive. Retail prices are around £2500, minimum, theses days for a 3090. Yes, they are available but that is just way too much money for a graphics card.
An obscene amount, if you ask me.

Eliminated
Rtx 3080 and 3080 TI which are also way overpriced in this market. £1400 if your very lucky. Realistically £1800 for a quick purchase. Yes, I could wait and wait and wait to see if I could get hold of an FE. An FE would have been my first choice. But, it is unlikely I'd manage to snag one.

Amd Rx 6900 XT. Yes, it's a better card than the one I ended up choosing but price/performance ratio didn't justify me spending five or 6 hundred pounds to get 11%, or so, performance increase.

I'm not an avid gamer. I enjoy sim racing .Well, to be honest, it's nearer arcade racing. My skills are just terrible. But it's fun. I don't play much in the way of other games.

So if I wanted a decent graphics card (And it would have to be decent, as I use it for VR) then that leaves me with the Rx 6800 XT. Cost me £1000.

Thank you, everyone, for your input. It really helped me decide.
 
The interesting thing in that TPU data is that the 20ms transient power draw on the 6900xt is significantly higher than the rtx3090. The 3090 has a higher sustained power draw but the transient spikes on the 6900xt are over 100w higher

As the guy to beat on all the benchmarks threads I follow, what would you go for: 6900xt or 3090?

I'm so tempted to pull the trigger on a 6900xt, but they're mad expensive as nothing comes close to msrp. Mostly racing games here and very little RT for me, but might feel like a huge sidestep from something like a 3090. Thoughts?

That it's more about quality than quantity? Sure :D

Ran a 3080/6800XT/6900XT all fine on my RM650x, only upgraded to the RM850x as it was a good deal at the time and I wanted the future headroom for a possible 3090! Turns out a 3080Ti was in my future and the 650x might not have liked that so much...

Have a read of the thread I think the OP had a similar query. I’m also not very familiar with racing games tbh so can’t speak from experience, but if you don’t care about RT the 6900 XT is very compelling due to its performance.

I had. The OP does have a similar, but different question. I was just wondering what you thought regarding the 3090, not the 3080 vs a 6900xt, not a 6800xt.

No biggie. I'll go watch some more benchmarks.

They are pretty similar, best to check benchmarks of the game/s you play. Sounds like you want a 6900 XT to me though. :D
