Next gen being held back by last gen

Not to mention the supply shortage - and no it's NOT simply because of higher demand. The PS5 is barely outselling the PS4 in a roughly equivalent time frame (7.8m to 7.6m). Why is it barely outselling? Because they can't make any more.... why? Because of the component shortage....
If the rumours of Sony changing the spec of the PS5 at almost the last second before launch are true (basically once they found out that Microsoft has gone for a bigger die with more GPU grunt), then a fair percentage of Sony's component shortage might be self inflicted.

If that rumor is true (specifically that their yields were as low as 60% when the die size would imply more like 80%) and with how die yields and binning work, then Sony would have lots (millions by now) of perfectly good dies which can't hit the speed they need and are most likely heading to landfill.

That rumour is pure BS, you don't change specs that late in the game, you don't design cooling and thermals for a chip then change the specs. You'd have PS5's failing all over the place and we don't. Not to mention PS5 is still outselling Xbox and they are both selling out almost as soon as they are in stock, so Sony must have more consoles being produced which they wouldn't if they were throwing away chips like you suggest.

I assume this is nonsense and from a business perspective makes no sense.

Do you have a reputable source to back any of this up?

This, it'll be impossible to change that quickly

This is normal on a launch, if you wanted a library of PS5 games waiting for you then buy 2-3 years after launch.

I think the only real effects from making a game PS4 compatible is it may not fully utilise the new i/o capabilities and also the newer cpu with things like number of NPCs on screen, although in many games things like that are tweakable as witnessed in PC version of games.

To me the only real benefit of a game been PS5 only is if the game its very self is designed to take advantage of more cpu power in a non scalable way.

Exclusivity itself I consider anti consumer.

Having played the yuffie DLC on my PS5, there is no way that wouldnt have run on a PS4, that was clearly sony using it as a console seller, hence my anti consumer opinion.

There was PS3 games still been made 5 years into PS4 life, and many PS4 games were also PS3 games several years into PS4 life.

So what about dates of the ms games? God of war is not exactly coming this year...

If all the devs care is money then why even release a PS5 then? Just keep rinsing the ps4.

People can live without 4k and 60 fps right?

Sorry I just don't agree with your posts and firmly stand by my opinion that this is a bad move making last gen ports on basically every Ps5 game coming on the horizon (no pun intended).

Also, the fact that the Ps5 sells basically the same amount of ps4, a console that's way cheaper and more available then a PS5 shows u how much of a demand and how much many want a PS5.

Again can you show me how much units of ps4 was sold in 7 months vs Ps5?

Also pricing, PS4's are significantly cheaper, they didnt make the equivalent of an Xbox Series S.

If you have a tight budget and that PS4 has a much bigger games library, buying a PS4 makes sense.

Well, if only rumours denied are credible?
https://www.theverge.com/2020/9/15/21437517/sony-ps5-manufacturing-yields-problems-report
The original story was reported by Bloomberg amongst others also back in September.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...ut-ps5-forecast-by-4-million-due-to-chip-woes

Thing is there are no tech journalists dirt diggers anymore :(

The rest is conjecture, but consider this:
PS5 has the smaller SOC / APU but makes up for it with clocks. Yields are meant to be bad.
XBX has the larger SOC but runs it slower. Yields are unknown but presumably better than Sony's.

Against that. Well, obviously the PS5 stays cool, if there were changes they weren't as last minutes as I implied in my last post, but imagine Sony decided to up the performance maybe 18 months ago, after the chip was designed. What could they do? Wait for totally new design and launch 12 months or more after Microsoft? Or spend extra on better cooling etc., but knowing yields would most likely be poor?

The only reason I bring this up is because 7mm TSMc wafers are very supply constraint and IMO far too many are going to console, and if Sony's late decision is responsible for wasting otherwise good dies? Not good.

This thread is like some kind of sketch show. Someone is being presented with facts and reason yet they continue to bang the same ridiculous drum nonetheless.

Imagine being a PS4 owner who loved God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn. You learn of sequels to each of these games coming out very soon, but they are only coming to PS5. It would be annoying to be locked out of sequels to such huge games until you fork over £450. Not to mention the supply shortage - and no it's NOT simply because of higher demand. The PS5 is barely outselling the PS4 in a roughly equivalent time frame (7.8m to 7.6m). Why is it barely outselling? Because they can't make any more.... why? Because of the component shortage....

The financial side of things is also a concern like people have said elsewhere in this thread. Making a huge AAA sequel to a running series exclusively for PS5 right now doesn't make the best financial sense. 110m possible customers compared to 8m. Yes there are some exclusive games obviously, but there is always going to be a crossover period.

And your comments about the Xbox event are valid. They did show a few games which are coming only to Series X/S and PC. But when? Some of them didn't have dates, and if they did it was 2022 (most likely delayed to 2023).

Trump got banned from social media and has found his way onto the OCUK forums.

Sounds like utter 4chan rubbish to me. People can never handle the actual facts nowadays, always has to be some conspiracy or drama behind it.

Its not simple enough to say 'not enough of X to make Y' anymore.

Edit: I am so sorry, I mistook you for the OP!

The chip fabricator for AMD has directly stated in multiple financial reports that they have a chip shortage due to insufficient raw materials. This information is publicly available. This trumps your feelings, opinions, and lies.

There is your fact as requested, now where is yours?
WHAT HAS THAT GOT TO DO WITH THE POINT.

I was replying to someone that was claiming that the rumour that Sony changed their chip design at the last minute was the reason for shortages.
Everyone and their dog knows there is a chip shortage globally on everything from your car to your toaster. Thank you Mr Captain Obvious.

Yeah, I find your trolling very amusing. I’m surprised no one else has caught on though.
Because I'm not trolling.

It's just you.

Just because I have a different opinion to you doesn't mean I'm trolling.

Your not changing my mind how God of war etc are PS4 ports instead a fully fledged next Gen title that it should be.

And your not going to deny facts that the demand for video games Is higher due to a Pandemic forcing most of us to be on lockdown stuck at home.

Video games as well as streaming Is a lot higher then pre covid-19.
