Let's compare actual cost

I have usually paid around 250 for my cards second hand, the 1080 I had cost me 350 from a shop about 3 or 4 years ago, the 3070 and 3080 I have were bought at msrp, so 450/650.
 
970 gtx strix was about 270
gigabyte 1080 was 520
2080ti strix 855

All were NIB and end of life or close to, can't remember before that. I can remember a voodoo 2 for 50 quid and a 4mb matrox memory upgrade for a tenner, both when shops were dumping them.

Then I accidentally bought a 3090FE.

£370 for MSI 1070 Quicksilver, same year. Got £190 for it last November!
 
Recent purchases only really, recent as in the last few ive bought.

Radeon 7 - £699 from overclockers on release, bought the gigabte which was £100 more expensive but had 3 years warranty. This is in the wifes machine atm.

Sapphire Nitro+ 6800xt - £950 and is currently in my machine.

Sapphire Nitro+ 6700xt - £559

Did I pay too much? Probably, am i loving the cards? Damn right.

It's not all inflation. Interesting though that prices were or appear to be based on posts what I expected years ago.

GPU prices may drop a bit from here towards the end of the year but it will be just temporary.
One of the major bubbles are very likely to burst this year, that is the stock market (Dow jones index, S&P 500, Nasdaq)
with the housing market following shortly after, then the other market bubbles...
What do you think all this is going to do to your national currency, pound/euro/dollar! Plus we're starting a new commodity up cycle.
 
Although I've had gpu's since the days of Riva TNT/Matrox/3Dfx etc, I can only recall the price for the last few cards I've owned.

Mar 2017.... Inno3D 1070 £335 (OcUK MM)
Apr 2018.... EVGA 1080Ti FTW3 £675 (Avforums)
Sept 2020....Asus 3080 Tuf £689 (OcUK Shop)

And that last one (my current card) I feel super lucky to own :)

Absolute win that.

I too have owned so many cards over the years I can't remember all the prices but I paid roughly £450 for my current Vega 64 Nitro+ incl. delivery.
 
I got my EVGA GTX 970 SC For about £280 on the day it came out. Can’t get same tier for even close to that nowadays which hurts the wallet so much. And it’s not like the performance jump justifies it either.

EDIT - a lot of these prices are not msrp it should be said, some are even long after the release date, maybe even years.
