RTX 3070 Gigabyte Eagle OC Temperatures Help

Hi guys,

I'm struggling to find any answers about my specific card regarding temperatures and wondered if anyone here could help put my mind at ease.

I have the card mentioned in the title. The card idles at around 45/50 degC and reaches approx 81 degC in game at 98% GPU use. Is this normal or high? I have read a few post of people saying there card does not go above the low 70s. My fans are also having to run at 80% to maintain that 81 degC temp.

Context is key. Because they have zero fan mode in idle, 50 is fine given its only being passively cooled and the fans are not spinning. Whats the ccoling like in your case? They get on better with good airflow and I have my case fans set to ramp up when the GPU gets to a certain temp to make sure its getting cool air.

What case and fan set up to have, are you using the infamous oven case?

Take the side of case off and see what temps are like then should know if case airflow is the prob.

I think I read somewherre the Gaming OC has one extra heat pipe or something.

Not to sound horrible but that is the case nicknamed the oven.

you can try increase the airflow in the intake as much as you can but if you experience high temps at all the times, then a new case is in order, for cooler temps, you want more intakes to provide cool air into the system.

I'm surprised it's even as cool as it is, that case is a bit of a hotbox, it doesn't have any real airflow. All things considered it's about as cool as you can expect then.

You can't compare an open test bench result that way and normally they have fans pointed at the test bench too and in a case the enviroment is totally different and always warmer (REVIEWS normally use a test bench, this review says he used a darkFlash DLX22 case, but was the side left open or closed up, guessing closed to make it more real use?). These temperature reviews annoy me as they are pointless and only give you an idea of which card may have a lower temperature when placed in a case, but reality is that it depends on your case and air flow in it. The whole bench test temps should only be used as which card has a better cooler on a test bench and again depends on that day how they pointed external fans at it and was it placed and tested the same.

All these new gen cards run hotter in a case than what any review says on a test bench. Same with the cpu reviews that also confused many on 5000 and 3000 series amd cpus as they run a good bit warmer in a case and many paniced something was wrong with their heatsink mounting on the cpu, when reality is again they run hotter than any other cpus before them and is normal, same applies to intels new cpus too.

. Ah well, 80 degrees is fine for a GPU though? I was just concerned there was something wrong with the GPU. Out of interest are there better cases you could suggest?

Yes it's fine, might just be a bit loud having to spin the fans as fast as it is to keep it under control is all.

Many, but they all have mesh airflow oriented designs rather than solid fronts like the H510. Some exampels would be, Fractal Meshify 2 Compact, Corsair 4000D Airflow, BeQuiet 500DX, Phanteks P500a. These are all no more than around £100. My personal favourite is more though and my main case, the Fractal Meshify 2, it's quite large though so unless you need the space, the compact version I mentioned would be my recommendation.

Are you sure the gpu is idling correctly and hitting idle clocks ? Use gpu-z to test it , let it sit at idle and see what the clocks are at idle. It maybe not going into idle correctly, only thing that I see that maybe a little warm is that, the full use temps well thats what they can hit.

Also how many displays connected to the card ?

I agree, but benchmarks are at least likely to be more valid than individual user experiences where the type of case and cooling can make an enormous difference - for example, I've got a NZXT 340 (not all that dissimilar to the 510) and my 3070 (an MSI) never gets above 69 degrees under full load - that doesn't help the OP in any way though...

Are they both high refresh rate monitors ? Have you checked what the gpu idles at with gpu-z at desktop the clock speed ? If you have more than one high refresh rate monitors connected it might explain the high idle temps.

I agree , but you also know what I mean how some testing on a bench setup is not realistic and is best case temps that way. Due to no heat soak from the case and other components in the system, which will always show higher temps in the end compared to bench test reviews. The OP should stick a picture of his case and show the fans and cooling used and how it's setup, to rule out a card thats operating too high temps. Also needs to check idle clocks too, to make sure the card is idling when not under high use.

Quick test that I do in every single one of my cases and I recommend everyone should do it at least once in their case.

Test your cpu and gpu temps are you normal would, like OP has done.

Then remove all side, front and top panels on your case that are removable - and now retest your temps.

If your temps drop a lot with the panels off, then your case currently has poor airflow. If the temps only drop a little bit then you have very good airflow.

This quick and free test allows you very quickly know where your overheating problem comes from

Temps on idle with the panels off do not change.

The temps are also slightly lower in game from my first post as I have now changed the fan curve of the pc fans to 20C=20% 30C=30% 40C=40% 50C=60% 60C=80% 70C=100%. Although as mentioned, it is quite loud now.
