Twas Friday morning (16th), I driving down the A1M doing a fair old speed, though nothing crazy, around 80 to 85ish when I spot in the corner of my eye a van on the bridge above, so as you do, I hit the brakes to slow but I assumed at that point its too late and a nice letter will be winging its way to me, courtesy of her majesties debt collectors... fast forward to today (16 days) and after two anxious weeks i've yet to recieve said fine in the post. Have I been lucky and caught the copper whilst he was eating breakfast, having a snooze?

P.S. Dont speed :)

Was it a speed camera van or just a plumber in a transit?

if a speed camera van and you ‘were’ doing 80 and hit the anchors in time it’s very unlikely you’d get a ticket.

It had a Battenburg pattern allover it and Police written across the side of it in big letters, so if it was a plumber he's a tw@t :D

I get a audible speed warning if I go over 85 mph and i'm pretty sure I didn't hear it go off, so perhaps I was doing less than 80? in terms of stopping in time, I assume once you can see it, it has already seen you?

It takes AGES to get the letter. They have stupidly long reach, slowing down after you see it doesnt mean anything

I've heard this aswell.. apparently 14 days is the limit so if its not been mailed out 14 days after incident is not legally enforceable, right?

I suppose they could mail it out on the 14 day dot so it could take till 16 / 17 days after to get the letter?

Think I have picked up a ticket on Friday :(

Driving on m 6 there were physical road signs saying 60, my sat nav said 60, but then there were electronic signs that were saying 50 - seems they were warning of congestion up ahead :(
.
I was doing around 60 I think and saw a camera flash in my rear mirror - bugger!

my one seemed to take several weeks, i thought i had slowed down in time and no letter had come. then opened a letter one day and had 2 choices, pay £92 and do a teams speed course or they would take it further. Course lasted 2.5 hours and there was nothing gory as i thought there might be

I wonder what period of time would be deemed to be that you've evaded a ticket? I always thought the 14 day rule was true?

Takes a while to receive it.

They are getting more aggressive about this & reducing the threshold leeway offered to motorists as well. The new camera vans are being stealthily placed on bridges so you can barely see them from the road but the new laser cameras are able to pick you up a very long way away & by the time you reduce speed they have already got you!

Also, they only need to post it within 14 days if it takes longer than 14 days to receive due to slow post then its still enforceable so technically you could get it within a month & still be done for it!

All in the name of safety I guess:rolleyes:.

you have to know about the rule in the first place and send it back rejecting it as out of time. i didnt know about any rules like that

I must be lucky I just drive up and down the A1 at 95mph all the time.

They do quite often put VOSA vans on the A1 they are checking for MOTs, also Police quite often sit on those bridges but they are not speed trapping.

Also, I don't understand these so called speed bumps, if anything they slow you down?
