Updrage advice please.

They stopped using blower style cards because the majority of people hated them and to cool 320w in that way would mean it would sound like a jet engine.

It is not perfect to vent all that energy into the case but it is quieter than the alternative.

I really hope the next gen sticks to the pcie rules and limits power draw.

The 780ti was a 300 watt+ card. It wasn’t a card you’d pick to build silent system but the acoustics where very good and a much better option than venting the heat to the case and other components.

I’ve only seen prise the GTX Titan setup. It was a big plus point for me.

Didnt the Titan use a vapour chamber instead of a normal heatsink? I am certianly in favour of those type of innovations but it most likely costs more to produce so they changed it to keep prices down.

hwmonitor shows my 5900x uses 100w and 6800 uses 200w whilst gaming. I have more tinkering to do to bring those numbers down more. I have heard rumours the next gen high end cards will require 500w and that is just horrifying and not something I would consider for a reasonable home PC.

The first version did, but thinking about Nvidia badly gimped the later revision of the Titan HSF and slipped it out the door quietly. That was probably why the reputation of reference coolers went down hill.

Ampere is certainly too much for 90% of setups and definitely not what I’d consider a drop in and forget about it upgrade. It’s outside of ATX/Molex guidelines and case choice is probably critical.

That silly Nvidia power adapter needs to go too. Adding a proprietary power extension while supplying huge amounts of current is just asking for problems. If graphics cards hit 500watts then it might an idea to get an electrician in to fit the thing. Along with a couple of in-line 40 amp DC breakers on the PCI-E cables LOL.

I’ve just been looking at couple of reviews of these two cards and they pull 500 watts. Seems a lot of people are reporting cards burning and failing under load. Carful with these cards people. That dream of a glorious RGB gaming rig could literally go up in smoke. I’d be very cautious about leaving a 3090 mining unattended.

HI all wasnt there a place one OC where you could sell you stuff ?

I think you need 1000 forum posts before you get access to the members market.

It's 1000 posts now, but was previously 250 (and a minimum time signed up). I can't remember when it changed but my first transaction there was 2013, so some time after that.

@Oddney - the section is titled "For Sale PC Hardware and Software", It'll be near the bottom of the main forum sections list, but if you can't see it you may not have posted enough by then!
