To be fair to him, none of us here has bought a new PS5 and opened it up to compare to a launch version when his video came out.

Or IGN or Eurogamer or Digital Foundry or Gamespot etc etc.

He just made a video confirming what the differences are, the information alone is valuable regardless how much you dislike the presenter.
Has anyone actually checked the chip temp to see if it's better or worse with the new version.

They have removed a fair bit of heat sink and all the copper It’s a bit early on to be so drastically cost cutting. Any idea if they have improved the RAM cooling on the other side ?

the plate on the back now makes full contact with the RAM chips now plus it makes contact with some some extra ones. Not sure such a thin plate even making full contact would make that much off a difference.

It does seem they over engineered the SOC cooling but failed to cool the ram adequately. If the new design can keep SOC temps under control and improves the ram cooling where needed it could be a better design and lengthen component life span. I suppose until some in depth analysis is performed who knows.

I did read a review that mentions one of the ram chips (think they referred to it at the bottom one) wasn't cooled and was about 30 degrees hitter than the other(s). So hopefully they've fixed this issue, iirc it was up at 90 degrees C:eek:.

Any news on stock? I’ve seen a few on the bay for not much more, but since I’m not in a rush (yet) I’ll wait until stock comes in. Once Forbidden West is out, all bets are off.

If anyone has a code I'd really appreciate it - if not using yourself obviously!

Never mind - got an AO one!

I would appreciate a code also if anyone has a spare going.

Ordered a ps5 from very last week but got cancelled as due to fraud checks as I put down delivery to my fathers address so the kids wouldn't find it as it was supposed to be a Xmas present.

Wow, that's a serious reduction in the heatsink.

How the hell that imbecile has 5 million subscribers is beyond me.

Hes awful and completely clueless.

Thankfully DF have debunked his conclusion of "worse" - it's essentially no different, perhaps even quieter* .

* according to the Eurogamer comments, this is down to the choice of fan (as there are 3 different ones even in launch model PS5s). With the "new" model using a Delta fan, which is preferable to the 17 blade Nidec (and the 3rd type being even better)

That Evans video was always bs. He basically decided that Sony hadn't probably spent the better part of a year looking at the internals and testing various ways of making it more efficient and ran with the notion of bigger heatsink = better (simply not true).

He can run a few tests but Sony likely spent months of man hours testing before rollout.
