Pillock on Phone - Light Scrape

Mobile repairers usually charge £150-200-350-400 per panel (depends on panel size, paint finish & how time consuming to match) not sure you would get it repaired for £50!

It's just a few tiny scratches from light contact, wit one slightly deeper probably would just t-cut out if I tried.

if you went there, and took it to the police, they should be able to correlate with phone records, but, I suppose, they can claim hands free.

I'm sure we've all been in situations that we can learn from and it's easy to judge when it isn't you/you have time to think about things, hopefully this gets sorted out with little fuss
yes easy to be self-righteous I'm thinking of an early study, like below, ze Germans, where they were discussing pyschology/complaceny of driving aids,
where safety margin can be reduced and, the aids behaviour, unexpected. (boeing, at the extreme)
I am not sure the Germans are whiter than white with respect to autobahn habits ..- I had not known their 0.9s follow law, and, maybe uk is worse
but had read this recently discussing advantages of adaptive cruise control
now got round to reading https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/16/business/tesla-autopilot-nhtsa.html too, have they turned on cameras yet.
the general issue of object tracking for stationary objects seems to remain, eg. debris, unexpected road-furniture.

So I got several quotes come back. Auto Restore SMART repair was £1700. Tesla's official approved repairer was £1,500! The former is what I was expecting to be the upper-end, not the lower end. Seems a joke for such a small bit of damage.

Company have agreed to pay the lower amount, so guess I'll take what I can.

it's the sill on front of the mirror. I think these guys want to repair a stone chip as well.

I'd double check that quote, that doesn't sound like it's for the wing mirror...

Generally the sill is what this shows:

Stonechip in this scenario is referring to a coating that’s put on to seal/protect parts of the underside body/chassis that would be exposed otherwise.

Do you really want them to respray the entire panel if it would machine polish out?

You said they are light scratches.

I doubt OP actually wants to do anything apart from teaching the driver a lesson for not complying after nearly causing an accident while blatantly chatting away on his mobile..

Saying that, £1500 does add some sweet to the sour!! :p

Depends if they are paying without the work actually being done. I wouldn't want the original paint stripped and repainted if it will just polish out.

If they are willing to pay, then I'd get them to pay for an expensive entire car paint detail. At least you get something out of it. Would probably still be less than £1500.

If they are paying without insisting that proof of work be provided I'd pocket the money and dig into my old man's cupboard for that "stuff" they telemarketed in the late 90's for fixing any paint imperfections..
