Tories lost the 2019 election among working age adults

You can't compare the UK with the US who have no regard for controlling their deficit, it's just kicked further down the generational road.
That's because, get this, the deficit simply doesn't matter! That's why there's been no negative effect for the US.

I only bring it up because it was used as the reason for austerity, but given that they didn't improve it at all, quite the opposite, then they failed by their own measure. Whilst suppressing growth for a generation.

Honestly, if you take nothing else from this conversation, take the fact that Tory economic policy has been awful for the country since 2010.

The other thing you lefties could look at, is towards oneself if you're in a heavily union protected industry since there are many in unskilled posts getting ridiculous pay for what they do and instead those actually doing tough and unpleasant jobs such as those in social care who should get paid more. Post person, refuse collector etc all over paid for what they do in comparison to someone having to wipe peoples bums.

Entirely true. Heavily unionised jobs are often overpaid. Its one of the reasons we're frequently struggling to compete internationally. They're pretty much what killed off heavy industry in the 70s and 80s.

Should be a union tax raid to recover the coinage that we've all been held to ransom for with their national strikes to bring the country to a halt at various times. Add to this baggage handlers.

Instead of moaning about other people having "cushy, protected" jobs, spend the energy improving your lot

Envy is so ugly ;)

You're assuming these people don't already have decent jobs...

I have a very good job. I also hate unions with a passion for what they've done to and continue to do to this country.

Good for you but don't hate people who work for the good of their fellow worker. Rampant unionisation is a problem for sure but trampling worker rights is a problem for everyone

It's not envy stating the disparity between unskilled roles such as a farm hand or care worker to a post person, baggage handler or refuse collector etc. No reason any of these roles shouldn't be similarly paid and some that haven't been should pay more of their share to propping up society rather than always being on the take in their heavily union protected role.

Don't tell Germany unions will kill your heavy industry! It's no wonder they've been doing do badly....

(British manufacturing industry was killed by terrible management, a terrible hands-off Tory government in the 50s, and a reliance on the dying British Empire. They simply failed to invest during the 50s, and fell behind. Everything after that was a mess, but it was because of thst decade)

German unions are very different to ours due to a completely different culture. I do agree terrible management didn't help but the selfishness of the unions were the coffin manufacturer, nails and cancer that put the industry there. Just look at the current arguments in the rail industry around guards and drivers.

Workers rights do not require unions.

Absolutely do imo, so I'll beg to differ. It's quite likely people on here are well educated and paid fairly for their experience as it's a computer enthusiast forum but I think it's absolute madness to entrust worker rights to the market

They're not trusted to the market. They're trusted to law.

Smoke and mirrors since everyone knows Labour can't add up or manage finances beyond spending too much on a host of vanity projects that would put the country's finances in a far worse place.

Yeah because the Tories have done such an amazing job over the past 11 years haven't they. This is on them and them only. As is the mess the rest of the country is in.

I enjoyed it when they tried to blame Labour. Despite the Tories having been in power for the vast majority of the last century.
