Upgrade from i5-8500 (and maybe more)

I was originally thinking of sticking an i9 9900 but read that my mobo would probably overheat and I wouldn’t get full performance out of it.
That super weak VRM would overheat before half way of 9900K's real chasing Intel's advertised clock speeds max power draw.
With wimpy three phases and no cooling, it's basically designed for those 35W TDP CPUs of market PCs.
33% beefier four phase VRM cooled by heatsinks gets pushed really hard by 100W TDP CPUs.

You’re talking nonsense.
We'll see when the reviews drop and everyone is going crazy for this CPU.

it is true that is a very basic board but the processor support list includes the i7 and i9 gen 8 and gen 9, so I probably would go for a used i7 9700 and make sure there is enough ventilation inside the case.

Marketroids may pull what they want out of their arse, but engineers designed that board for 35W TDP CPUs.
