Tumble dryer - heat pump or condenser?

Most people think the shorter cycle uses less energy because it’s on for less time.

When in reality the shorter cycle relies on using more water and heat to get the job done.

Who uses the tumble dryer at night though - they're not the quietest of domestic devices? And isn't the flip side of all these cheap night time deals, more expensive day time electric?
We do, but it's in a utility room with the door closed so we can't hear if in the rest of the house.

Why do people need fast wash cycles as standard? I get they are useful if you need something quick but I'm not really sure why you'd be fussed normally?

I nearly always use 3hr eco on the dishwasher.
Rarely ill use express. Sometimes I'll use intensive just mainly to clean the machine. Or if something really needs a a pounding.

Dishwasher I use the longest cycle always just to keep the machine nice and clean and to stop it from smelling as much. It has an eco mode but all that does is recycle dirty water to wash the dishes.

Washing machine I use intense wash, cotton, with bubble foam technology (both foam and intense have to be selected seperately and intense increases the wash time).

Dryer I just use all in one auto setting. It always says 3 hours but usually takes less a sit has a sensor to detect dry levels. It's a condenser and a fairly high end budget model. I will when the garage is converted sell it on and get a mid to high end heat pump.

One thing I've noticed is the people who need to wash something urgently last minute are not usualy th people who will bother washing it at all :p
