Interesting that Intel slides focus on the 129 and 126 but not 127.

I have a feeling the 127 is the real champ here for price and performance
The value champ will be the 12400F once that is released alongside the cheaper B660 especially if it beats the 5600X and costs around 150 quid, it would be hard to see how AMD could continue to sell the 5600X then at over £200.

Hmm that does make sense. Alright time to just wait some days and see how things are when the packages arrive then I guess.

Out of curiosity I fished out the order invoice of my current spec, actually 2016 not 2015 as I first thought but anyway:

Code:
October 2016
£304.98 INTEL CORE I7 6700K OEM
£5.99 ARCTIC SILVER AS5 3.5G
£124.99 CORSAIR HYDRO H115I CPU COOLER
£164.99 GIGABYTE GA-Z170X-GAMING 5

Total: £600.95

To:
Code:
October 2021
£389.99 Intel Core i7-12700KF 3.60GHz (Alder Lake) Socket LGA1700 Processor - Retail
£15.95 Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut High Performance Thermal Paste - 5.5g / 1.5 ml
£94.99 Arctic Liquid Freezer II High Performance CPU Water Cooler - 280mm
£199.99 Asus Prime Z690-P D4 - Intel Z690 DDR4 ATX Motherboard

Total: £700.92

Not bad at all I'd say.

The 5600X is simple a drop in upgrade for a huge number of systems. Alderlake is at least a CPU, motherboard, cooler and OS.

I ordered the 12900k retail at 17:00 still processing payment in that but gone out of my PayPal.

And the ROG Strix Gaming A DDR 4 board which payment has been cleared according to the order status.

I'm assuming I am one of the 200 at that time of day.

Because why not, I never enjoyed working with my 5950x and gigabyte aorus extreme mobo so will rip those out the case and sling them up for sale soon.

From what I hear Corsair/Micron stuff not looking to be great so far Jon, Teamgroup stuff looking to be a fair bit better (but dropping next week or so).

So because a number of people have already bought a compatible board in the past this means AMD can charge extra for the CPU?.

AMD doesn't support DDR5.

DDR5's prices may seem steep but let's not forget how much AMD charges for its own graphics cards, and underperforming for the price level CPUs.
Ryzen 5 5600X should cost not more than £150.

Does anyone think there be an appreciable difference between 12700k and 12900k in gaming? Don’t really know whether the 12900k is worth the extra.

Some info for those wanting to max out ADL. Samsung ic’s are best again. Gear 1 is useless. Everything is focused around Gear 2 so the best Samsung mem you can afford, the better your chip will do in gaming. Keep even frequencies when tuning as mem controller doesn’t like odd frequencies, cl or tcwl.

Cooling will be a challenge so expect to get more out of mem tuning than core tuning.
