It's the whole no1 driver argument. They would say equals, we know it's different. Merc is Hamiltons teams as long as he's there, but even so I find it really condescending even though it's clear Bottas is there to rear gun.

So with the above, if Toto said it I would think the same. If I believed they were equals I'd see it as high praise from the boss.

We know their positions will swap tomorrow one way or another, so it's kinda insulting really becasue Bottas got pole on merit today. It really is a shame he's so hit & miss in the races.

True. What’s the rules of Parc Ferme again? i assume they are allowed to replace broken parts so unless the spare wing also fails, they should have the advantage that the working part gives them…

They can change parts on a safety basis I believe (like for like), although the replacement may have the same issue?

Why would he think that? He clearly isn't as Hamilton has beaten him to every title since they have been team mates.

Lewis is the most decorated F1 driver of all time. Like literally the best in terms of what he has won/statistics.

What has Bottas won? :p
 
I meant more in terms of seniority within the team, which isn't necessarily about who is the better driver. Hamilton has been at Mercedes for years whilst Bottas is the new(ish) guy. That's why I can perhaps see why Hamilton thinks he's saying something nice, even if Bottas may not take it that way.
 
Looking at how green the track seemed, I wouldn’t be surprised if Lewis gets an awful getaway and ends up p4 whilst Bottas bottles it in to T1 and lets Max sail past.

I think it's going to be a close run thing. A lot will depend on the start, but RB's absurd blaming of Tsunoda for their Q3 **** up shows they're rattled, imo.

Should be a much more interesting race than I'd been expecting.

He may mean nothing but it. But it does come across like that.

Alpine are no where.
Pretty dissapointing. Makes races hard to watch.

Over the years Merc has been pretty fair/not showing a clear number 1 driver, once or twice maybe and then this year when Bottas had an awful start (not all his own fault) and they had a strong challenge so again it makes sense.

This is nothing like the Schumacher Ferrari era, or even Vettel/Verstappen at RB who regularly show more bias than Merc do.

But yes, tomorrow if Bottas is ahead of Hamilton they will switch, and they'd be idiots not to. Hell, if Verstappen is behind Perez they'll switch that too even though they're ahead in the championship but again it'd be the right choice no matter what happens to Hamilton.
 
I expect double team orders from now on.. whether Valtteri obeys is another matter but I think he will

It’s not in his interest to do anything else.

Max will be quick off the line on those soft tyres. Bottas can get his elbows out though and hopefully he does.

I'm fully expecting a Reb Bull + Mercedes collision on the first lap, perhaps even a RB + RB one as Perez doesn't sound like he wants to help Max at all this being his home race.
