Please spec me a quiet and efficient new build for 4k video editing

Hi all, hope all is well.

Last build is due an upgrade and I'd appreciate the support of the community again as I'm out of the loop with the latest kit.

I've got a 4k monitor and the PC will be used for general use, image editing and 4k video work.

Some manufacturers I like from the last build I'd like to stick with their latest products if possible mainly because they keep the PC super quiet even when under load:

Fan: Notuca
Case: Fractal - ideally with usb c front port(s)

Storage wise 4TB should be good. I like having an OS and program drive and separate one for data. Be good to have an additional backup drive that can automatically copy the data drive.

If I can do without a graphics card to save some power and cost all the better.

I've read components are at some of their cheapest at the moment ( apart from graphics cards) not sure how true that is.

Please give me your thoughts. Looking to buy the majority this weekend but if something is around the corner happy to wait for some bits.

Won't be doing gaming (got the Xbox for that).

Budget is between 1 and 2 k.

Cheers!

I bought a 5800X with a Noctua NH-D15S a few months ago, I don't do any editing but even when under gaming it's completely inaudible. The key to stop all noise from the Noctua was undervolting to 1.25v. I assume editing uses the cpu, so completely quiet might not be possible.

Thanks when editing on the current build you can hear it a bit on render but is still quiet enough. New ones doesn't have to be completely silent just "quiet"

Cheers.

Any chance you can list your current spec please instead of trawling threw a thread.

Will you be reusing anything ?

Cheers, away at the moment and don't have the spec handy but after a complete new build anyway not looking to keep anything.

So something along these lines...Fractual Design 7 case(reviews say excellent build quality, cooling needs looking at with air), 12700k with onboard graphics(2700k up there with 5900X AMD) Mobo you get a £70 rebate from Asus with the 12700k . mobo itself can take 4 pciegen4 nvme..added 1(SN850 as primary) and 2 2tb SN750 also for storage...guessing you could mirror them if you want(think the 2tb SN850 are reduced to £254.99, or lesser 2 tb sn550 £134.99 but sustained write speeds drop, whereas the sn750 has much better sustained speed )..used 32gb 2x16 3600c16 non rgb ram..want rgb, extra £20, or extra £10 is 3600C18 corsair vengeance rgb..psu gold rated 650(on offer) as you're not planning on a dedicated gpu, otherwise would increase power..still looking at cooling at mo..top is solid but can take 3x120mm fans..think you can get a perforated top for better air cooling
As a different approach that gamernexus put, the quietest cases they gave award to was the Br quiet purebase 500Dx and 5000D airflow runner up...with max airflow, fans don't spin up and so case remains cool and quiet
roughly 14min 5 secs in...added cases below...5000d you can get black fri for £99 at mo...so case determines fans a bit

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,508.50 (includes shipping: £14.70)

Thanks very much for your suggestions. I'd assumed AMD were the CPU's to go for at the moment, any reason you recommend the I7 over AMD? Will the on board graphics be good enough for 4K editing and rendering? (I wasn't sure if they would be).

My current Fractal just has two big fans, one on the front and one on the back (I didn't bother with the top) and has been running fine. They've certainly put their prices up a bit from when I bought mine. I guess I could reuse the previous Fractal 5 case if required? Assuming there hasn't been any changes in motherboards since I bought it? I just fancied USB c on the front, but £149 is a lot to pay for one USB C port :D

Cheers

Either will work for your use case.

12600K is the go to performance per price king at the moment with the 5800X being slightly slower but more expensive (last time I looked).

That is a nice build you got there, might just have to pinch it for myself :D

Hardest thing im scouting atm is a case with a large gap between motherboard tray and side case as with my current case and previous cases I feel like the case presses on the SATA leads a bit. Need a case with 4 mechanical drive slots and hard to judge distance from pictures, that and a GPU ><

Ordered a few bits so getting there. Any benefit in going for a higher priced Asus motherboard such as the ROG Strix A than the TUF Gaming one?

I would say not unless there's a specific feature or the rgb you like on the board.

Looks like Asus cashback has been extended to 19th December so get the cpu and motherboard together from qualifying retailer if that still interest you.
