Police. Can I kick them out my owned home?

:cry::cry::cry::cry: my thoughts too. Sounds like some priorities are in the wrong order. OP you could have asked the police to keep the noise down :D.

If they had turned up to arrest him, I assume the police would have had a warrant?
 
You should've thrown one of the massive packages of drugs that you obviously have in your house at them, and tell them to leave before they find a horses head in their bed.
 
So this is an AIBU thread about police noise levels at 5AM in your house?

I had similar but I was a tenant in the house-share and one of the other tenants got reported for drug possession. Cue a drugs bust without warning at 3AM as half a dozen officers searched the druggy's room and one of the other rooms.

It's unfortunate but you just got to suck it up. The police were only doing their job and the awkward times (3AM, 5AM etc) is probably so that they're more likely to catch the druggy.
 
Do you own your home outright because you should probably check this with your mortgage company if not.

Also insurance companies, IIRC they often want to know if anyone is living at the property and paying rent who isn't a relation, or in a relationship with the home owner, as having a tenant changes the risk for the insurer (for example that you might firebombed by a rival drug dealer of the guy in your spare room, or that the police will break your front door down at 3am).

I think that sort of warrant is mainly an American thing, in England from what I understand an "arrest warrant" is usually for someone who the police don't know the whereabouts of (IE someone who they've ID'd but not seen, or skipped bail etc) and I think partly acts as flag on various systems that the person is wanted*, whilst the police can basically arrest you without a warrant whilst you're committing an offence, on suspicion of committing an offence, or in some cases being about to commit an offence.


*So as soon as they interact with any law enforcement agency it shows up.
 
I think a more normal response is to ask the police what he's being arrested for, is he dangerous, and will he be coming back to my house? Rather than getting historically worked up about how noisily the arrest went... Bizarre.

Serious question, but is it a normal thing for a mortgage company to stipulate that you cannot rent out a room in the house that you’re buying?
I’ve never rented out a room and I never would, but I was unaware that mortgage companies frown on it.

It might once the OP delivers the epic plot twist. Popular options include:
  • He was the one that dobbed his tenant in to the feds
  • He is the tenant
  • He is the home owner but agreed to swap identities with the tenant because "reasons"
  • He works for the mortgage company
  • He is the police
  • Something about ghosts, aliens or queen wasps.
 
Stuff happens - I could understand the reaction if the police were busting in the door every other night or something or just doing it for LOLs.

The mortage company has a lot of money vested in the property, they often want to know about what's going on with it if money is involved.
How much they want to know will vary, but there is a reasonable chance that somewhere in the small print there will be something about letting it, or rooms out to rent.

Yes.

If the mortgage company needed to reposess the property, I think having unknown occupants such as tenants makes it tricky to proceed.

probably should have asked for a warrant and made a complaint at the station about being woken up at 5am if they did not have one.

don't actually go the police station though it's probably closed to the public with a phone box outside to contact the police unless it's a big station :rolleyes:

police always act like they have the power and authority to do things they actually don't, they are experts at manipulating gullible members of the public such as your partner.

the more people like her the more they get away with it, so many police have attitude problems and think they are above the law.

we are expected to follow the law but they don't have to follow procedure they just act like they have the right and then people don't question it.


why help someone who wouldn't come to your house if you were bugled? you'd get a crime number for insurance and that's it..... some guy wanted probably for some petty crime though five0 busting your door down at 5am....
 
What was your tenant arrested for? Anything to do with theft?

Genuinely curious due to the many hours I spent back and forth with Royal Mail trying to resolve the missing £200 ram kit I sent to you back in September.
