What "man jobs" have you done today?

Bought some spindles, infils and beading to make a channel for the infils and spindles.

Now need to fill and sand, and then paint/stain.

Finished decorating these now, painting spindles takes a lot longer than you'd think -.-

Need to do some caulking and a bit of touching up with paint but finally done.

Changed dud down light bulb in bathroom - took 10 min to change but spent 2 hrs looking in every stupid place I could have put the little rubber sucker you need to remove the bulb.

Fitted a boss to soil stack and a stand pipe so can now have dishwasher back in action

Finished cinema room electrics, recess fitted projector screen and fitted door and window, busy weekend! Chuffing project is almost complete tho!

What paint did you use on the stairs? Gloss, Satin or Egg Shell? Looks nice.

Also what grey is that on the walls?

Fished some two core bell cable through the front porch roof void for a new doorbell installation.

Surprisingly awful job but got there in the end and very satisfying.

Lots of plasterboard repair to do now. My hands and arms also need repairing as I hacked them up reaching through small holes. I wouldn't want to be a spark.

Egg shell on the stairs. The colour on the walls is called "Pigeon" F&B.

Decided to do a quick decorate job on the dining/stairs/upstairs hall. Didn't need much - a blitz with 120 on the R.O sander and some much needed 'refilling' of various holes left by previous owners.

Petition to castrate anyone who fills holes with the Rawl plug still in place?

As you can see from the above, this house is extremely popular with young/new families and has had several stair gates in its time

I normally tap the wall plugs in with a punch if I'm filling over the top (if it's the plastic type). I've fitted some of the real heavy duty ones, but not sure how to get them our as they're pretty solid. My mam jobs today were chopping a piece of hardboard for puzzling purposes and fitting 2 toilet seats which made me realise not all seats are the same size lol.

I had a muppet evening yesterday . I burnt the scrambled egg in our newish SS saucepan.

Soaked it in washing up liquid and hot water for a few hours - No
Emptied out water and put vinager and baking powder and hot water in -left it over night - No No
Today I got brutal - after another soak with soapy water I then attacked it with a plastic spatula - Finally got it clean.

Problem was these new SS pans heat up in half the time as Circulon pans. Good lesson learnt.

I fitted a gatemate lock to our wooden garage doors at the weekend. This was to replace a hasp and staple which wouldn't have kept anyone out for very long. Next job is replace the hinges with some higher security ones.

I also replaced our 2 dumb boiler timers with a single hive to control both water and heating. I had to do a bit of rewiring but it was easy.

Emptied my office and ripped up the carpet in preparation for laying laminate tomorrow. Turns out the existing underlay will work perfectly so that’s saved me some time and money.

I thought you’d normally have a very firm underlay underlay a ridged floor. You risk it breaking apart at the joints if there is too much movement.

Make sure you run it perpendicular to your floorboards (if you have floorboards) or sheet flooring if chipboard etc. Ideally you'd take off skirting etc. first and run it under the skirting too, but you can get scotia strips to take up the excess.

Who said carpet underlay works perfectly. As said the boards will break the locking mechanism if there is any movement

The floor is concrete (or whatever other hard layer they use on ground floors). I'm going to be using ducting between the floor and the skirting as I have a lot of cables and then use beading for the remainder. I'm also going to use the hard-floor underlay I bought and take up the carpet one.

By the way, I'm a DIY idiot, so it's all new to me.
